Mission:
Return to Tyra
Location: Bridge
The USS Wayfarer dropped out of warp on the edge of the Tyra system. The Tyra system was a trinary system,. The primary star, a Class K star shone brightly and the two other stars, Classes M & A cast several shadows off the planets in the system. The system itself was uninhabited due to the lack of Class M worlds, but it did have three gas giants and four barren planets.
The viewscreen of the Wayfarer showed the view of the battlefield with the backdrop of the system. The debris field was huge, spanning several thousands of kilometers. Several of the wrecks could be idenfitied from a distance due to their unique shapes such as saucer sections, nacelles and distinct secondary hulls used in Starfleet designs.
A moment of silence fell upon the bridge as Akeno stood up slowly from her chair. She took a few steps forward and stared at the debris field. She could already make out the unique shapes of Federation starship classes such as a few Galaxy Class, several Akira, Miranda and a few older designs such as Excelsior and even Ambassador class ships.
"Luna take us closer to the debris field." She said. "Nice and slowly, we don't want to disturb anything."
"Aye, Captain. Bringing us into a Strila Forbec orbit," Luna's hand's glided across the holo keys.
Akeno tapped her comm badge. "Captain to all hands. We have arrived in the Tyra system... I..." she paused for a brief moment. "I understand many of you have lost people you knew or loved here..." she paused again as she failed to find the words she was looking for. "Before we begin. I want to let you all know that we will get through this together. We will stand together as a crew and as a family. Lets get to work."
She turned to face her bridge crew. She didn't need to give orders, enough had been said. Her head lowered as she looked down at the deck whilst she walked back to her command chair. Sitting down she avoided eye contact as she continued to stare at the floor.
Counsellor Rania Bhatti had noticed the tone and the Captain's physical actions. She studied Akeno carefully, opting not to pull her aside. She needed to keep Akeno to feel right now.
The grim sentiment was no doubt shared in part by her XO; though no words were exchanged between the two of them, as she gazed out over the desolation laid bare before them, Mashiro was only now beginning to reckon with the unprecedented scale of this operation. With no less than 98 ships that they were going to have to sift through, one-by-one, it was likely they could be here for several days, possibly even weeks. And with the very nature of their assignment requiring them to keep a low profile, it was unlikely that they would be receiving outside assistance over the course of their salvage operations. No doubt, such a tall order was going to be disheartening for the crew, and she was already beginning to anticipate productivity taking a hit as a result of low morale.
Ileah stood behind to the left of the Captain, Padd in hand and Ramrod straight in a proper lady like manner. Her head high and respectful stoic expression. The Captain had hit it on the head; there are Loved Ones here. The tears stigging the edges of her eyes did not coe forth through sheer test of her will.
"Crew Lists of those unaccounted for or on the Survivor's lists have been forwarded to Medical, Science and Operation Captain." Ileah relay in a more formal tone than she used with Her Captain. "Intel is reporting ready to Analyze date as it is made available."
"And Counselling reporting here if needed," Rania said crisply. "Caught the little announcement" she added. "This place has a lot of heaviness to it, you don't need to be empathic to feel that. I have seen it in the eyes of the crew."
Akeno noded at the counselor. "Thankyou Counsellor." she said with a small smile.
"Ok, once we're in position. Start launching the shuttles." Akeno ordered, she stood up from her command chair. "I'll be in the ready room." With that said she moved over towards her ready room door and walked inside.
Luna felt the very air vibrating with the grief the sceen before her radiated.
"Marg. qaSpa' may'rup. [Rest well, brave warriors.]" Luna whispered softly.
Patra was in the turbolift on her way to the bridge when the captain’s announcement came over ship wide. She already knew they were in the system. She had one more task before she reported to the shuttle bay and her mission. The turbolift doors opened and Lieutenant Rommel took in the devastation laid bare. She was already inured to the scene. She had seen it over and over for sometime now; as she was the chief designer of the probes in system tracking everything. Stepping up to the captain she spoke softly “Captain Misaki, I am relinquishing command of ten in system probes to you. These probes will allow you and senior staff to asses the best way to a lot resources.” With that statement Patra tapped on her PaDD a command and the view screen changed into ten separate views of the Tyra system. Some scenes actually had deceased individuals floating by in them. “Permission to gather my team and make way for the USS Atlantic?” If anyone was observing Lieutenant Rommel, they would think her as being cold and aloof to the devastation she had brought up on screen.
Luna's chest constricted tightly as she looked at the carnage.
"tlhoS wanI'vammo' jatlh chaH: jIvHa'wI'! [Those sons of smooth foreheaded Women!]" Luna growled in her mind as her fists clinched in rage at the destruction!
The captain's announcement took Mark unprepared. He knew they were closing in but he didn't think they were that close. He kept running through the cargo bay now re-fitted as a soon-to-be obituary area, while shaking his head.
