Mission: Hunted
Captains Log.
The Wayfarer has stopped at Starbase Twenty Six. We're taking on a few supplies here before heading out again on a mapping mission beyond the Tamong system. It should be an exciting adventure thats for sure, as we will be the first Starfleet vessel to chart and explore beyond that system.
We have a couple of days downtime here at Starbase Twenty Six before we have to ship out. We are due some crew rotations as per usual, I however am looking forward to spending some time on the Starbase's promenade. Rumour has it, there is a Japanese restaurant that is rated the best in the quadrant. That has my name all over it. I might have to drag Shiro-Chan to it too...
End Log
The USS Wayfarer sat inside the huge mushroom shaped hanger of Starbase Twenty Six. The huge Spacedock Class Starbase was a monument to The Federation's Engineering. Essentially a city in starbase, several starships could be berthed safely inside its huge spacious hangar. Compared to other ships in the hangar, the Wayfarer was small yet she was attracting a lot of attention from the crew of the Starbase. With the Intrepid Class still being a fairly new class of starship, and one of the most advanced, it was a rarer sight than the old Excelsior and even the Galaxy Class starships that she was berted alongside.
Akeno stepped out of the ready room door and onto the bridge, stretching her arms high in the air. The Wayfarer had been docked for the last several hours, and now most of non-essential bridge crew had been relieved. "So, anyone got any plans for these next two days of downtime?" she asked casually.
"Check up on Hiromi, see how she's doing, run an onsen simulation in the holodeck, and shut my brain off for the next 48 hours," Mashiro sighed as she went through the post-docking checklist. "After everything that's happened these past few months, I'd say I deserve it."
"You know, I hear that there is a fantastic Japanese restaurant on the Starbase's promenade." Akeno smiled as she took the steps up to the rear section of the bridge. She made her way past her chair and leant over the rail overlooking Mashiro. "You want to come? Or are you not brave enough for wasabi with your sushi?" She teasted.
Mashiro raised an eyebrow. "What makes you think I can't handle a little bit of Wasabi, Captain?"
Akeno poked the back of Mashiro's head. "Oh I don't know. You just don't seem like the type..." she smirked.
Mashiro turned and looked her Captain over as if to ask if Akeno was being dead serious. "And what, exactly, may I ask, gave you that impression, Captain?"
Continuing to smirk, Akeno simply pulled away holding her head high. She could sense that the other bridge officers were trying their best to hold in their laughter. "Well, I guess I'll never know..." she said as she placed her hands behind her back and began wandering slowly over towards the turbolift.
Mashiro glanced over at Lieutenant Suruga, who happened to be standing just a few feet away. "Is there something I'm missing here?"
Runa, trying her best to muffle her laughter shook her head. "No. Commander..." she smiled.
Mashiro sighed and turned back towards the turbolift. "Alright, Captain, I'll play along; just let me finish completing this checklist before we disembark?"
Akeno simply waved as she stepped closer to the turbolift.
Luna chuckled softly as she finiahed shutting down the Helm controls and stood up, also making her way to the turbolift.
"Permission to grab Eclipse and tag along, Captain?" Luna asked, referring to her mirror counterpart. Eclipse had settled down significantly since the trouble with the Romulans forcefully taking over a mining claim after a series of games was supposed to dermine the owner. Luna was quite pleased with her progress.
"You'll have to be quick. We're going now." Akeno smiled. "We also have something to do on the starbase before we go hit the restaurant. So feel free to go before us if we're not there in time."
"Message received...and thanks." Luna smiled as the turbolift doors closed.
"Wwe're going out of the starship?" Eclipse asked, paling slightly. Luna wrapped a reassuring arm around Eclipse's shoulders.
"You'll be fine, Eclipse. You've grown so much and no one will make you do anything you don't want to do, I'll make sure of that." Luna stroked Eclipse's hair before braiding it and tucking it into a cute purple and blue butterfly hair pin. Eclipse took a deep breath, nodded, and the two were off. Eclipse was a bit overwhelmed by so many people being all in one place, but she didn't break, and by the time they got to the restaurant, Eclipse was completely calm and enjoying herself. Luna had relaxed as well, but remained vigilant to ensure Eclipse didn't become overwhelmed.
[USS Wayfarer Sickbay]
Sickbay aboard the USS Wayfarer was unusually quiet. a rarity that Doctor Johnson had learned never to trust.
He stood at the central diagnostic console, reviewing crew medical updates as the ship rested safely within Starbase Twenty-Six. Routine scans, minor injuries, the occasional stress-related complaint...it was all reassuringly calm. Still, Mark had a habit of looking twice at everything. Out here, small details had a way of becoming large problems.
“Doctor?”
He glanced up to see the Head Nurse stepping in from the biobed area.
“You’re still here,” she noted. “Most of the senior staff have already disembarked.”
Mark gave a faint, distracted smile. “Yes, well, the rest of the crew doesn’t stop having bodies just because we’re docked.”
The nurse crossed her arms. “You’ve cleared every patient twice over. Even Commander Mashiro passed her last check with perfect results. You’re officially out of excuses.”
A smile showed up on Mark's face. “I suppose that means I’m being ordered to take shore leave.”
“Strongly advised,” she answered.
He hesitated, then nodded. “Very well. If anything comes up...”
“I’ll call you,” she said, already ushering him toward the exit. “Go. Be a person for a few hours."
