Mission: The Games
Location: Sports Stadium - Lolruna

[USS Wayfarer - Bridge]

Lieutenant Suruga sat at the Operations console. It had been fairly quiet on the ship since the majority of the crew were occupied with the sporting event on the planet below. Captain Misaki and the senior staff were all below and competing for the mining rights to their dilithium.

The other three ships were orbiting nearby, a Klingon Vor'cha cruiser, an Orion destroyer and a D'deridex warbird. Runa was busy with running a diagnostic on the Wayfarers power grid when her comsole began beeping.

"Are you seeing this?" She asked lookimg over to the science console where Lieutenant Wazumi was sitting.

"Yeah... The Romulan Warbird has just engaged their cloak."

The image if the warbird on the Wayfarers viewscreen showed the huge vessel disappearing from view.

"What are they doing?" Wazumi asked as a puzzled look spread across her face. She got her answer immediately as the D'deridex warbird uncloaked. It had broken orbit and was now in close proximity of the Orion's much smaller destroyer.

Bright green disruptors erupted from the warbird, striking the Orions ship causing it to explode kn a ball of fire.

"Red alert!" Wazumi called instantly.

The lights on the bridge dimmed and they were bathed in tge red lights. "Contact the Captain!"

Down in Luna's quarters, Eclipse yelped as the Red Alert alarms sounded, and dove under the bed, wishing Luna was there to reassure her all would be well.

[On the surface]

Akeno looked over at the Romulans. They seemed on edge, or slightly uneasy. She was about to ask Mashiro if they may be planning something when suddenly suddenly the green hue of Romulan transporters surrounded them, the Klimgons and the Orions. Only a split second later, fully armed Reman troops appeared, heavily armed.

They imstantly raised their disruptors and it was also then that Akeno noticed more Reman troops beamimg into the stadium, blocking the exits and securing the area.

"What's goimg on here?!" Akeno demanded to the Reman closest to her. The Reman didn't anseer, but instead drove the butt of his disruptor Rifle into her face. There was a loud crack as it struck her nose, clearly breaking it and sending Akeno to the floor, blood streaming down her face.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Mashiro shouted as the away team drew their phasers. "What in the f*** do you think you're doing?!"

With a sneer, the Romulan Commander stepped forward. "As I made explicitly clear, a mining claim between the Romulan Star Empire and Lolrunia was already in writing prior to Mister Balha's imprudent decision to give our mining rights away for Lolrunian entertainment; as such, if he is unwilling to uphold his end of the bargain, then we have no such reason to respect his terms and conditions."

"And what about our Alliance?" Mashiro argued. "Surely, it's not too late to work out some kind of agreement where we could co-opt the mining rights!"

The Romulan Commander scoffed. "Our alliance with the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire was purely a means to an end; a guarantor of the Empire's survival against the superior forces of the Dominion. To think there was any greater significance to our allegiance in that time is foolish."

Raelyn quickly scanned the intruders with her eyes to find an out for her colleagues. They were surrounded. She still had her own phaser raised, but chose not to act until necessary.

Akeno spat some of the blood out of her mouth. "So, instead of playing fair. You're just going to take what you want by force?" She asked her eyes narrowing.

"You bunch of no good, lice infested, scumbags! You're a bunch of cowards taking a swing at my Captain like that! You'd better pray I don't ever get your Commanding Officer alone!" Luna snarled, stepping protectively closer to Akeno with balled fists. Despite her battle with the Klingons, Luna was primed and ready for more, her bruises and cuts making her look even more intimidating.

"Luna." Akeno called out, as she slowly made her way back to a stand. "They're the ones with the guns..." she reminded her simply.

"Sigh. Aye, Captain, you're right...but I STILL wanna rip whoever it is a new one." Luna said the last part of the sentence in a whisper as she uncurled her fists one finger at a time.

Akeno turned to look at the Romulan commander. "So what now? You think that The Federation and the Klingon Empire will let you get away with this?"

"Because we should let you get away with our mining claim?" the Romulan Commander retorted. "The one that, lest I remind you, was already in writing, before that back-stabbing lout decided to give it away on his own volition?"

He marched over to Akeno and lifted her chin to meet him at eye level. "You can crawl back to your respective governments and tell them what you so desire, but the Senate will stand by my decision- by the terms and conditions of our written agreement, the planet Lolrunia is the exclusive mining of the Romulan Star Empire!"

And with that, he threw Akeno to the ground. Mashiro had to do everything in her power to prevent Luna from lunging at him.

Luna hissed darkly, but allowed Mashiro to restrain her from going on a rampage against the Romulans.

The Commander turned to his cohorts. "Take these incels away; if any of them attempt to resist, I authorize the use of... necessary force to subdue them."

Several Remans stepped in and grabbed them. Slowly they were marched away back into the changing rooms. Once they were imside, the door was slammed shut and seemingly locked.

"So..." Akeno said. "Does anyone have any ideas?"

Mashiro, for one, seemed to be completely beside herself.

"All our hard work... everything we fought for... was it all for nought?" she muttered as she began to pace back and forth, lost in her own bubble of self-doubt.

Luna started throwing anything not nailed down around the room, howling Klingon and Bajoran insults at the rafters, her self-control barely holding on by a thread.

"Luna, Calm down." Akeno said loud enough so that she could hear. "Ok. Everyone look around, lets find anything we can work with. Our first priority should be escape and returning to the Wayfarer."

"Oooo! Just...grrr. I'm sorry, Captain. I'll continue to work on my attitude. Think any of this stuff I busted up might help?" Luna asked once she'd calmed enough to make coherent sentences.

"Hmm," Akeno said as she looked around the room. Indeed Luna in her rage had done quite a considerable amount of damage. Akeno spotted what looked like part of what had once been a bench. "Grab that, maybe we can use it as a weapon against the Romulans."

"There will be no need for that." A calm voice said.

Akeno spun around, she was now face to face with the Lolrunian leaders. They seemed rather calm and collected.

"What do you mean? The Romulans will annex the planet, take the Dilithium without an regard for your people!" Akeno said in response. "How can you be so calm?"

"The Romulans can't take the Dilithium. Because we will not allow them." one of the Lolrunians said simply.

"You know that they'll bring more ships, more soldiers and force it regardless of if you let them or not?" Akeno asked.

"We know. However, they have no power here," another of the Lolrunian's explained.

"I... Huh?" Akeno said tilting her head in confusion.

Suddenly around them the room seemed to fade away. In fact the entire stadium and the city around them seemed to fade into nothingness. In a matter of meer seconds they found themselves standing on a rather barren planet. Gone was the city, the lushious greenary and everything they had seen.

"Wait, was this all an illusion?" Akeno asked.

One of the Lolrunian's nodded. "Yes. We apologise for the deception. However, we wanted to see if the 'powers' of this area of space will be able to compete peacefully."

"Wait... You were..."

"We were testing you." another of the Lolrunian said. "For we are beings of pure energy and of immense power. The Dilithium on this planet gave us the opportunity to try and understand you better. For we we once like you,many millenia ago. However, we now see that none of you are ready for our return or our guidance."

"You wanted us to settle this through peaceful competition?" Akeno asked. "In hopes that we would win the mining rights fairly?"

The Lolrunians looked at each other. "As was our way long ago. However, it seems that this is not a viable option for any of your species. We advise you all to return to your people and to never return. This planet will disappear, and you will not be able to relocate it until we deem you ready."

"Wait a moment... I have one more thing to ask..."

However Akeno was cut off as she along with the rest of the senior staff found themselves back on the Wayfarer's bridge. There was a blinding flash of light as the Wayfarer was thrown across space, clearing the Nebula.

The ship rocked as Akeno held onto one of the handrails. "Report!"

"Captain, we're back outside of the Nebula..." Runa said from Operations. "The Klingon and Romulan ships have gone. I can only presume that they were thrown clear too." she tapped on the console and showed an image of the Nebula. It seemed to be phasing, slowly fading into the background of space. With a small flash it was gone, disappearing forever.

"Well, this is going to be an interesting report to Starfleet." Akeno said with a sigh. "I wonder when the Lolrunian's will deem us 'ready' to communicate with them again..."
