Mission: The Games
Location: Lolrunian Planet

The Wayfarer entered orbit of the Lolrunians planet. The Intrepid Class starship was tiny compared to the huge Sphere of blue, greens, purples and browns below. Akeno stood up from her chair and looked over to Shiro.

"OK then." Akeno said. "Shiro, Raelyn, let's get ready to beam down." She was excited to be opening these negotiations.

"Aye, Captain," Mashiro nodded as she stood up to follow Akeno to the turbolift.

Raelyn followed the two other officers of the command triad into the lift. She spoke to Akeno and Shiro quietly. "Is it wise to have all three of us off ship?"

"I'm sure it'll be fine." Akeno smiled. "After all, we're on a diplomatic mission. Its best to put our best foot forward. I'd say its worth the risk." she shot a look over at Mashiro, she didn't want any back chat, not today; this was her chance to really shine.

Luna had an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach, but chose to ignore it on account of being unwarranted, and Luna didn't have time for unwarranted feelings.

Eclips quietly watched from a corner of the Bridge, still skittish, but getting braver as time went on.

Patra was in her office in Engineering, reviewing the maintenance logs. She was frowning, who the hell was overseeing maintenance while she was out. She blew a bubble, well first things first, transporters would need a complete overhaul, as well as Petty Officer 1 Herdt who was responsible for the transporters. They had not had any proper preventive maintenance checks and services since she was gone. Granted the transporters were only off by .005 microns but still was to high a risk in her opinion, which was, as far as the Wayfarer engineering staff was concerned was all that mattered.

[Transporter Room 2]

Akeno adjusted her uniform, pulling at her collar to get it perfectly straight as she entered. She wanted to look good for the Lolrunians, and make a good first impression. She stepped up onto the transporter pad first, taking the forward center spot.

"Reporting as ordered, Captain," Mashiro announced as she and Raelyn entered the transporter room. "I've taken the liberty of forwarding everything that we currently have on file pertaining to Lolrunian customs to the away team, so at the very least we'll have an idea of what to expect going into this."

"Good work." Akeno replied with a smile.

Patra came into Transporter room 2 like a bat out of hell. She was wearing the yellow jumpsuit of engineering, which was stained with various fluid stains. She marched right up to Petty Officer 1st Class Herdt. “You are dismissed from this posting MISTER report directly to my office and we will be having a discussion on you and your crews’ proper preventive maintenance checks and services on the transporters. I’ll handle the beam down of the captain and complement.” CPO 1got deathly pale and managed, barely above a whisper, to reply “Aye, Aye sir.” with that statement he pivoted and fled the room. Patra looked over at Commander Akeno and smiled sweetly “Wouldn’t want you folks being scrambled during beam down.”

"Definitely not," Mashiro sighed.

"Captain" the young Lt. reached the transporter room 2 with his uniform in order and the stanrdard medical kit used for planet side missions. The young doctor greeted everyone and assumed a position on the transporter pad.

"Ma'am, Commander Johnson ordered me as the medic for the landing party" he explained, eager to be part of the expedition.

"Oh, well by all means come and join us. Hopefully we won't need your skills." Akeno replied with a smile.

[Planets surface]

The away team materialized in a large circular room. It was rather grand and directly in front of them sat five throne like chairs. Each of them occupied by a Lolrunian. Compared to Humans the Lolrunians were slender, with slightly tanned skin. Their arms and legs seemed to be more muscular and they stood at approximately six foot tall. They were all dressed in fancy robe style clothing, of purples and gold. The one in the center chair, seemingly male had a long white beard, braided with jewels and ties. His robes were pure gold, showing some sort of importance.

Slowly he rose to his feet. "Greetings Federation. I am Balha. Head of the Lolrunianian Panel." He stated. "I welcome you to Lolrunia."

Akeno stepped forward. "Thankyou for you warm welcome. I am Captain Akeno Misaki, of the United Federation of Planets and the Starship Wayfarer. This is my executive officer, Commander Mashiro Munetani, My Chief of Security Lietenant Raelyn..." However suddenly she was cut off by another voice.

"Bah! These Federation lot do sure talk a lot!" The distinct voice of a Klingon called out as a door opened to their side. The Klingon that had spoken stood behind another Klingon, seemingly his Commander and much more imposing. \

Krotos stood quietly watching the proceedings. He stood at a solid seven feet with a white scar running from his left ear down his throat and disappearing into his uniform.

Mashiro glanced over at Akeno. "I don't remember the data burst mentioning anything about the Lolrunians having made contact with the Klingons," she whispered. "But perhaps it's not too late for us to work out a joint mining agreement? In spite of that incident with the Terrans a few months ago, we should still be allies."

"Could be a good option..." Akeno replied just as surprised as the rest of them.

From the shadows of the room a tall and muscular Orion officer stepped in. With deep emerald green skin and golden sharp, calculating eyes, Commander Vorek stood in the presence of the Starfleet away team.

"Let them talk" Vorek told the Klingon with a slightly theatrical tone "...humans like to hear themselves talk, we shall not deny them such a pleasure" he concluded with a bit of sarcasm while resting both his hands on his utility belt.

Shaddous, an Orion female, stepped next to the Orion Commander, Vorek. Her body was barely covered for an audience; unless it was for a pornographic holovid. Whispering to Vorek, in Orion “Well at least the humans are far more luscious looking than the Klingons; and their attitudes are better than either the Klingons or Romulans. Added bonus, they are easier to manipulate and control.” All the while caressing Vorek in an obscene manner.

"You're kidding," Mashiro groaned. "The Orions are in on this too? Whom else have we got here, the Romulans?"

"My thoughts exactly," came a third voice.

All heads in the chamber turned to observe a small cadre of Romulans, looking not one too pleased with this whole situation.

Mashiro pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "Screw me and my big fricken' mouth..."

"And as I recall, Mister Balha, our men have already signed an agreement with you guaranteeing exclusive mining rights of the system to the Star Empire," a tall, stone-faced commander standing at the front of the cadre surmised. "Where exactly in that document do these yikhs factor into the agreement?"

Mashiro glanced over at Akeno. "Exclusive?"

"What exactly is happening here?" Akeno asked turning to the Lolrunians.

Balha stood up. "It seems that there are four of your galactic empires that want our precious rocks. We were contacted by each of you, so we invited you all here together."

The Romulan Commander scoffed. "I cannot fathom why you feel there is anything to discuss, Mister Balha; we had a deal in writing, so why are we wasting our time even considering the others?"

"Ah you want to know why..." Balha said. "Nothing on our world is gained by negotiation like you wish. It has to be won through friendly and non-lethal competition. We brought you all here at this time to compete against each other. The winners get the right to mine the dilithium. The others get nothing!" Balha explained.

Vorek gave a low, amused chuckle, stepping forward just slightly, his boots echoing faintly on the polished floor of the chamber.

“Now that,” he said with a slow grin, “sounds like something I can respect.”

He turned his head, gaze shifting across the assembled factions — Federation, Klingons, Romulans — and then back to Balha. “What kind of competition are we talking about, Mister Balha? Physical? Tactical? Intellectual? Or all of the above?”

"We have scanned your ships databases." Balha stated. "And developed friendly 'competitions' from each culture in the form of what you call 'sports'."

"On that note, why do you think we'll stoop to playing games in the first place?" Krotos spoke quietly...well, quietly for a Klingon anyway.

Balha smiled. "Only we know the true location of the dilithium. And we will only tell the winners jts location." He explained. "We'll be holding what you refer to as a 'sports competition.' That's how we do things here."

The Romulan Commander, on the other hand, was less than negotiable to the terms.

"We had a deal!" he protested angrily.

Shaddous, still clinging to Vorek like some lewd second skin. "See DARLING, I told you the so called alliance the Federation had with the bIHnuch Klingons and veruul Romulans wouldn't last. They are already squabbling. I say we accept this challenge by the Lolrunian's....: in Orion and barely audible whisper, "there are ways to cheat, after all there are many ways to effect all three, Federation, Klingon and Romulan. Isn't that why you brought along myself and the 'slaves'."

Krotos watched the pair, revulsion making his blood boil.

"You have no honor, but if a contest is what you wish, then we shall see who is the strongest," Kronos rested his hand on his belt.

Vorek closed his eyes while tasting Shaddous’ caresses, without bothering too much about what the the Klingon was saying, afterall…he is an inferior race, he thought.

Shaddous gave a musical laugh and replied to the Klingon named Krotos “Oh we Orion’s have plenty of honor chrome dome. Just we are selective as to whom we show it.”

"Return tomorrow to the co-ordinated you will recieve tomorrow. Gather a team of twelve to compete in various events." Balha told them all.

Vorek nodded in acknowledgement to Balha, already thinking of whom to include in the twelve contestant.

"Well... this changes everything..." Akeno muttered.

[In orbit]

A Klingon Warbird suddenly appeared out of the void off the Wayfarer's starboard bow!

"What the actual space port!?" Luna yelled...well, this is the NICE version of what she said...you don't wanna hear the actual words! Eclipes yelped in fright, diving under a console. While she'd been trying to not be so afraid, she still had a ways to go.

An Orion Dreamrunner V Light destroyer came from around from behind the Lolrunian moon. As the Wayfarer’s sensors began their scan of the vessel it split into three vessels; the Dreamrunner V hiding two other Orion vessels, both were Spectre Class I Clipper/Blockade Runner’s.

"SHOOT A BRICK!" Luna swore a blue streak at the multiplication trick, her blood boiling at the slimy frogs cowardness of skulking about. Luna was NOT a fan of Orions, her Father'd had a few run-ins with them...none of them pleasant.

A small shuttle detached from the Dreamrunner V Light destroyer, which the Wayfarer’s computer identified as Nethersphere; a designated by Starfleet Intelligence as a suspected piracy and smuggling vessel and to be treated with extreme caution. The shuttle slowly made its way to the Lolrunian planet. The computer also identified the other two Orion Spectre Class I Clipper/Blockade Runner class ships as the Space Shark and the Cosmic Serpent. Starfleet Intelligence placing both vessels as definitely pirate and smuggling ships and to treat them as extremely hostile.

"What I wouldn't give to knock those creeps out of the sky," Luna hissed softly.

"Aare they after us?" Eclipes whispered from her 'hidding place'.

"No, Little One, they're not...but whenever Orions are around, trouble likes to follow," Luna tried to sooth Eclipse's fears but also be practical.

To be continued...
