An unexpected call.

Mission: The Games
Location: Bridge
Timeline: September 6, 2376

If had been nearly six weeks since the Wayfarer had finished retrieving the technology and bodies from the Tyra System. The ship was in a far better mood now. It was mid morning, and a casual chat ter floated around the bridge as always. Akeno liked it that way, keeping it nice and casual and relaxed.

She sat in her chair, a PADD in her hand. She glanced over at her XO and smirked. "You're quiet today Shiro-Chan."

"Just getting these duty assignments filed before I start handing them out," Mashiro replied. "We're anticipating another crew rotation later today, so I figure it's best to get ahead of the curve."

Akeno smiled. "Doing your job as always huh." She replied. "Oh, speaking of which. How's our new Science Officer doing? Made him laugh yet?"

Mashiro looked up. "He's a Vulcan; I'd probably have better odds of winning the Lissepian Lottery before I ever get him to laugh... though, I will be sure to let you know if I do."

"Like that's ever going to happen," Akeno teased. "You need to learn to laugh yourself first Shiro Chan."

Mashiro sighed. "I thought we had this talk about you referring to me as "Shiro-Chan"..."

"Would you prefer it if I called you 'Commander Munetani' all the time? It seems so formal!" Akeno said as she turned back to her PADD.

Luna chuckled softly as she listened to the duo.

[Those two are such goofs! Oh man...I'm starting to talk like a HUMAN!] Luna laughed outright at that thought!

Mashiro glanced over at Luna, then back at Akeno. "Well, at least Lieutenant Eclipse thinks I'm funny."

Luna tried to quiet her laughter...it was hard.

Akeno smirked as she looked down at the helm for a moment. "I'm sure she does." She chuckled.

Luna had mostly contained her laughter, but she was still chuckling softly.

[Gym]

The sound of a weight touching the ground echoed through the empty room. Raelyn was working on her deadlifts. Normally she'd be on the bridge, however she had covered a shift of one of her security officers who had a family emergency. She would still be on the bridge soon and she had already informed the Captain and XO.

She hadn't gone too heavy on the weight since she was due on duty soon and wanted to conserve her energy. She crouched down with form to pick up the barbell. She rose up carefully and crouched down and released again. The Chief of Security took a breath and then realized the time: She was due on the bridge soon. She did have enough time to shower and change into her uniform however. Raelyn took a swig of her water and reorganized the weights she had removed, before returning to her quarters.

[Personal Quarters]

Having a bit of well deserved off time, Mark was busy relaxing and reading a book. Reading about ancient sea warfare was something that kept his mind busy so to avoid it wandering to the mission just finished. It has been a rough one for the crew, but it hit differently on him as well. Last time he attended a mourning ceremony it was a personal matter, and that ceremony in the cargo bay threw him back to his late wife's service.
He massaged the scar on his body reminding him of that time and kept reading, hoping to distract even further from his thoughts.

[Bridge]

"Incoming transmission from Starfleet Command, Captain," the Ops officer seated adjacent Luna piped in.

"Well, that's unexpected," Akeno said. "Put it through on the viewscreen."

"Aye, Captain," the Ops officer replied.

The viewscreen shifted to display an office, framed against the backdrop of what many of them recognized as the city of San Francisco. Seated in the foreground was a young, forty-something Rear Admiral with Midnight Blue hair and matching blue eyes.

Akeno stood up. "Admiral," She greeted.

"Captain Misaki," the Rear Admiral smiled. "Glad to see that you and your crew are back to normal operations. I must say, the Wayfarer's been quite the talk of Starfleet Command lately; Medical in particular have taken something of a keen interest in Doctor Johnson's findings regarding the synthesis for Ketracel-White; and that "Delecita Asperalda" maneuver that your Flight Control Officer devised was nothing short of absolute genius."

Luna scratched the back of her neck, thankful that she could hide her blushes nowadays.

"Eh.. heh... heh..." Akeno responded blushing at the sudden praise. "Well... I can't take all the credit you know. We're just doing our part and all..."

"Oh, I hardly meant to insinuate that you should get all the credit, Captain," the Rear Admiral insisted. "I just meant to say that your crew's successful handling of the situation in the Tyra system has proven the Wayfarer's effectiveness in the field."

Snapping back to some form of attention, Akeno nodded. "Yes Admiral. So... what can we do for you?" she asked.

"Ah, yes," the Rear Admiral replied. "We have a little bit of situation- nothing big, mind you, but critical enough that Starfleet Command feels it would be appropriate to dispatch a ship that has already proven its in-field proficiency. Typically in such situations, we'd be reaching out to, say... Mikoto Misaka or Big Bruise Bluegarden, but the former just had her second kid and the latter is currently presiding over Bajor's formal indoctrination into the UFP. I did suggest a few other ships- the Dragon, the Albion, the Sunfire, the Chuck Norris- but Starfleet Command has been rather insistent on assigning the Wayfarer for this mission."

She grinned. "Ready to play in the big leagues, Captain?"

Akeno clenched her fists together and held them infront of her a look of determination on her face. "Yeah! What have you got for us?!"

"Well, cast your attention over to this:" the Rear Admiral instructed as the viewscreen switched over to a starmap.

"The Triangle!" Mashiro spoke up, immediately recognizing the region in question.

"Very observant, Commander," the Rear Admiral replied. "Since the earliest Vulcan push into this sector of space, the region has been characterized by its intersecting borders between the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire. Of course, since those borders aren't so clearly defined, it has also garnered something of a... notorious reputation for lawlessness and piracy, and criminal organizations such as the Orion Syndicate have made their cut operating out of the poorly-defined border regions of the sector."

Luna's intrest was quiped.

"Isn't that a very dangerous area of space?" Akeno questioned. "No one really has a claim there, plus its in dispute and void of any sort of laws."

"You can start to see that we're in need of a qualified crew for this assignment..." the Rear Admiral lamented. "Anyways, on Stardate 53350.62, the USS Cannon was conducting a survey along the edge of the Opal Nebula when they detected a primitive warp signature coming from within Star System Opal 19, approximately 16 light years from their current position. Though the Opal Nebula is one of many contested regions within the sector, the crew of the Cannon felt that their proximity to the signature warranted an investigation. Upon their arrival in Opal 19, they discovered, and I quote, "A fully warp-capable civilization, based out of a Class M Planet within the star's habitable zone, of which sensors noted was rich in natural dilithium deposits and several other vital minerals." According to some accounts, the sensor scans of the planet practically lit up like a Christmas Tree."

Luna's interest went up ten notches!

Akeno nodded as she assimilated this information.

"And what of the Warp-Capable civilization?" Mashiro inquired.

"According to reports, contact was successfully established with an Alien species, who refer to themselves as "Lolrunians"," the Rear Admiral continued. "According to their accounts, they had only just developed warp capabilities within the last 10 or so years, and were using it to jump between their home planet and the nearest star system from theirs, Opal 21. Up until the Cannon first established contact, they weren't even aware that there were other space-faring civilizations out there, let alone three major powers on their front doorstep."

"So, its not a first contact procedure." Akeno pondered. "I'm guessing there's something that we need or want from these Lolrunians?" she asked curiously. "Are we opening diplomatic relations with them?" she added with excitement.

"Bingo," the Rear Admiral nodded. "Initial contact with the Lolrunians was reported to be "favorable," and they seemed open to the idea of establishing trade relations with the another space-faring civilization, in return for the Federation's assistance in charting Opal 21. Unfortunately, the Cannon, being an Oberth-Class Light Science Vessel, lacked the proper facilities with which to properly establish trade relations, so Starfleet Command has elected to dispatch a more qualified star ship in its stead."

"So, you're sending us?" Akeno asked.

"That was the plan, yes," the Rear Admiral smiled.

"Ok," Akeno replied with enthusiasm in her eyes. "I'll get us there immediately admiral. Can I request a data burst on everything we know about them?"

"Of course," the Rear Admiral nodded. "The crew of the Cannon was very meticulous in their note-taking, so it should cover just about everything your crew will need to know going into this. Forwarding the data burst to your ship now..."

The Ops console chirped.

"Data burst received, Captain," the Ops officer reported. "Forwarding the information to Sciences."

Akeno looked back briefly giving the Ops officer a nod before returning her attention back to the viewscreen. "We won't let you down Admiral!"

"If there was any doubt of your letting us down, Captain, we wouldn't have asked this of you," the Rear Admiral replied. "Oh, and before I forget... your Executive Officer wouldn't happen to be related to one Mashimo Munetani, would she?"

Mashiro blinked. "She's my eldest sister, yes; why do you ask?"

"Oh... no reason," the Rear Admiral smiled as the transmission cut.

Luna was tempted to look at the Commander, but she knew better than to move.

Mashiro glanced over at Akeno. "What was that all about?"

Akeno turned her head slowly to look at Mashiro. A huge smirk was spread across her face. "Looks like someone's scoping you out..." she said. "Maybe you should get us moving in the right direction huh?"

"I don't like where this is going..." Mashiro grumbled before shifting her attention to the matter at hand. "Lieutenant Eclipse, prepare to lay in a course for the Opal Nebula."

"Aye, Commander. Setting course for the Opal Nebula now," Luna tucked her thoughts into the back of her mind as she typed in the coordinates.

"Ok then." Akeno said as she slid down into her seat. "Let's go, engage!"
