Mission: The Games

"For our next event! It's the Aquatic Dash!" The announcers voice echoed around the stadium. Once again the arena changed, a large crystal blue swimming pool appearing in the center set with four lanes. "Competitors will swim in various water densities against each other from one side of the pool to the other! There is a mixture if not only water densities, but a mixture of salt and fresh water! Let's see who can win in these conditions!"

"Competitors! Take your positions!"

"Well that's me." Akeno smiled. She pulled at the hem of her shirt lifting it clean over her head. Underneath she was wearing a tight fitting two piece swimsuit, cropped under her chest to reveal her stomach and simple speedo-like trunks at the bottom. She pulled the ribbons out of her hair to let it fall down loose and grabbed a pair of plastic swimming goggles from a bag she had brought. "Wish me luck!"

"Jesus Christ, are you going to be able to breathe properly in that thing?" Mashiro asked with a look of concern.

"I breathe rather well in it." Akeno said. "I tested it beforehand! It made Xanders night..." she winked at Mashiro before turning towards the huge pool in the arena.

Mashiro shook her head and sighed. "Why does she think I'm interested in her sex life?" she muttered to herself.

[Pool Area]

Akeno stepped up onto the small diving podium and pulled her goggles down over her eyes. She looked to her left to see the huge Klingon who was already crouching ready to dive in. She did the same, crouching down and holding onto the edge of the dive platform.

Her heart pounded in her chest, she had to win this. She was not only the Captain of the Wayfarer, but she had been on the swimming team back at the Academy. She knew that this was her sport, this was her time to prove herself.

Taroc could feel the nervousness of the human Captain, and it made him smile.

"Maybe you should just forfeit this game, human. You're obviously a coward." Taroc taunted, exacting laughs from the other Klingons.

"Shut your face you son of a smooth foreheaded Mother!" Luna snarled in Klingon, almost vaulting the divider to defend Akeno.

"Says the Halfling. What spineless species did your Father conquer to have you?" Taroc shot back, again bringing roars of laughter. Krotos was curious to see how the young woman would react to that.

"You and me after this round, Klingon. I'll show you who I am." Luna's voice had dropped to a deadly calmness. Krotos's brow rose, and a smirk twitched the corner of his mouth.

(This Halfling could become very interesting.) Krotos thought, determined to learn all he could about her. She seemed familiar, but the connection was just out of reach.

Akeno looked over at Taroc and gave him a sharp look. "I'm just nervous that I'm going to show you up. With all that weight of yours, I'll be surprised if you even float..." she mocked him.

"Why you little!" Taroc snarled, almost stepping off the starting block.

"Taroc!" Krotos barked a warning, freezing the big Klingon in his tracks. Luna nodded at the Commander, surprised that he helped, and that either he didn't recognize her, or he was playing his cards close to the vest, as the Ancient Earth saying went.

Vorek, the Orion commander, silently gestured one of his Orion entourage to reach the starting block for the race. He didn't like to talk much, he was more for theatrical gestures.

With a small nod an Orion officer, Lyra, stepped in, undressed completely and positioned at the starting blocks.

Luna just barely held back the bile rising in her throat...Orion's were such weirdos! Bajoran's were one thing...but Orion's had a way of making it just WRONG!

The start horn sounded, and Akeno wasted no time. She dived straight into the pool. She kicked hard as she flowed through the water. At the moment it seemed like normal density, plus it was warm not cold.

'Breath' she told herself as she occasionally stuck her head above the surface, took in a deep breath and continued a strong breaststroke through the water. She was leading, her petite body was far faster than the others, that was her strategy.

"Holy crap, she's in the lead!" Mashiro exclaimed, though she wasn't holding her breath that this was somehow going to last.

"You're surprised, Ma'am? She's a tiger when she has a goal in mind, plus she's gonna make sure that Klingon eats his words," Luna smiled, her fangs glinting in the light.

The water density changed and Akeno suddenly felt lighter. She used this advantage to pick up speed, kicking harder and quicker as she zipped through the water. "I bet the water is denser at the end..." she thought yo herself. "Best get a good lead here..."

"AHOOO! GO AKENO GO!" Luna whooped, pumping her fist in the air.

(I find myself strangly excited to see if this Halfling will put Taroc in his place. Eventhough she barely comes up to Taroc's chest, she's determined to defend her Commander...interesting.) Krotos mused, a gleam sparkling in his eye.

Akeno continued with a strong breast stroke, occasionally popping up for air. She kept her head down as she slipped through the water. She knew that just behind her the others were closing in fast, but she was a strong swimmer, she knew she could do this.

The water density soon turned back to normal, her body felt heavy with the change. However this felt more natural. Her muscles burned as she pushed more and more. Akeno was now solely focused on speed and speed alone. With all of her remaining energy she shunted it all to her legs.

Then she collided full pelt with the far edge of the pool, head first.

"Ow!" She let out as she grabbed the edge treading water one hand on her head. "Who put a wall there?! Wait... oh..."

"Ah, shit," Mashiro winced at the impact. "Doc, do me a favor and get her a hypospray? I think she's going to need it..."

Mark immediately reached for his portable medikit, rushing towards the XO.
"Here, let me have a look" he knelt close to her and started checking the situation to address it properly.
A quick analysis confirmed nothing catastrophic and he applied the hypo in order to help the XO bear the pain.
"Here it is, shouldn't hurt much longer" he confirmed her "The hand could get a bit swallen for a while and if you still feel pain come see me in sickbay once we are back on the ship" he warned her.

"I'm sure I'll be fine Doctor." Akeno smiled. "But thanks anyways..."

"The Winner is The Federation!" A voice boomed loudly. "Second to The Klingon Empire, Third to the Romulan Star Empire and lastly Fiurth to the Orions!" The announcer added.

Akeno sighed in relief. "I won..." she smiled. "I actually won..."

"YEEEEHA! Way to go, Akeno!" Luna war-whooped, stomping her feet and whistling loudly.

Akeno pulled herself out of the pool. She smiled back at her crew whilst rubbing her head. Slowly she approached and stood in front of them. "So... Anyone got a towel?" She asked still rubbing her head where she had collided with the pool wall.

"Right here, Captain," Mashiro called out as she and Mark made their way out onto the pool deck carrying towels, hyposprays, and a couple bottles of water.

Akeno took a towel and wrapped it around herself. "Thanks. We should get back."

The Competition Continues!
