Investigating the Arista (Backpost)

Posted on Sat Jul 23rd, 2022 @ 8:38am by Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Miller & Captain Akeno Misaki & Lieutenant Ileah & Lieutenant Torvin Anor & Lieutenant Rosaleen O'Donnell

Mission: Arista
Location: Crashed USS Arista

[Wayfarer - Transporter Room]

Jonathan stepped into the medium sized room and realised he wasn’t the first one to arrive. Stood in the middle of room getting themselves ready for transport was O’Donnell and Torvin. “How are we looking?” Jonathan asked, helping himself to a phaser belt and attaching it around his waist. “All ready for transport?”

O'Donnell scan through a series of data streams before responding. "As long as we don't lose these pattern enhancers, everything should be fine. I'll have the team working on the sensor mods as well to increase reliability." She finally gave way to the transporter tech and made her way to one of the transport pads. "I'm ready when you are."

Torvin stood upright, the engineer clearly a little overprepared with a belt full of traversal equipment, and a harness over his uniform "Wouldn't be late for my first away mission on the Wayfarer sir." he stated eagerly as he finished checking the belt of his climbing rope "Should be interesting to see what we find down there!"

The doors to the transporter room opened again and Ileah and Seth walked in. “I’m glad you’ve both arrived. I was almost tempted to send a search party to find you.” He teased. “Any last minute details from either of you before we beam over?”

"I appologize." Ileah began. "Spooky.... I mean Lt. Specter was not totally for coming and tends to not let me play with his 'Toys" if he can avoid it Sir.

The group made their way onto the transporter padds and checked that they had all the necessary equipment with them. Most were carrying phasers or tricorders, and Ileah was carrying an emergency medical pack as a precaution. Jonathan stood on the padd, one hand on his holstered phaser. “Okay Chief,” he addressed the transporter chief on shift, “Energize.”

Torvin took a breath and scrunched his eyes for a moment as the transporter activated, always hating the initial moment of transportation "Here we-" the rest lost as he beamed away.

Ileah felt a little tingle as the transporter started, it was times like thes e when her uniform choices often made her question herself, she hoped it was not too chilly on the crashed ship, her legs are especially sensitive to cold. "The Captain and her insistance for skirted uniform and Yeomen's Solidarity.

[USS Arista]

The group materialized on what appeared to be the Miranda-class vessel’s main bridge. The air was musky, and there were no lights to speak of. Seth handed out wrist torches to everyone, glad that he had taken the initiative to bring some with him. O’Donnell opened her tricorder and started to scan the immediate area. “Anything of note?” Jonathan asked, his eyes still adjusting to the torch illuminated darkness.

Rosaleen continued to take readings as she responded. "Nothing out of the ordinary...well, as far as what you would expect from a ship this old crashed on the surface of a planet. She actually held up a lot better than I would have thought." She adjusted her scan parameters. "Power is available, but there are a lot of blown relays and conduits though."

“Lieutenant Anor, see if you can get some power routed up here to the bridge. I want to know which systems are working and which aren’t. Ideally we can review some sensor logs to piece together exactly what happened here.” Jonathan stepped down towards the helm and was met by a dead console. He swung his wrist torch around and saw that there was evidence of catastrophic damage to the bridge. Most systems were probably beyond repair by this point.

"Aye Commander." said Torvin as he looked around "I'll see what I can do for...what's left of a bridge." he hoped, quickly running over and pulling what remained of a panel off of the wall "Wow..a lot of parts are just...missing. Oh, but there is still a power cell. No wonder you're still here, removing you was a nightmare during training." He reminisced as he leaned fully into the panel, legs now off the ground "This should be enough to get us power for a little bit...ugh come here you little-...Give me a few commander, but you'll want to be quick when this turns on. I doubt the power cell is in anywhere close to a long-term healthy state."

The science station on the bridge lit up, it's console scree s flickering slightly. The emergency lights also illuminated, however covered in dirt and grease they cast only a dull light across the old bridge.

Miller looked around at a few of the flickering consoles. "Let's see what we can find out shall we" he smiled as he made his way over to the old Captain's chair, maybe he could find some logs that would be useful.

The viewscreen flickered on and a young looking Captain emerged on the screen. Her hair was a mess, the bridge behind her looked heavily damaged as light from behind her was provided by chattering flames and emergency lights.

"This is Captain Sistine Fibel" the woman began "Of the Federation Starship Arista. We have been attacked by an unknown vessel. Warp core is offline, engines are down. We have no shields, no weapons" she paused as the ship shook violently.

"Captain, we're being boarded. Intruders reported on decks eleven through six..." a voice from behind her said.

"We need help. I'm going to be transmitting a general distress call. This may be my final log..." a thundering sound of knocking came from behind her, something was trying to get through the bridge doors.

"Oh my god...." Sistine suddenly disappeared off screen, only to be replaced with screams and occassional shots of phaser fire. The transmission cut off, only for the viewscreen to fizzle out.

Jonathan stood there in silence. "Well" he said. "At least we know they were attacked. Lieutenant Anor and O'Donnell. Get into those computers, download all the logs you can"

Torvin watched the video with concern, frozen for a moment. He shakes it off a few moments later "Aye Commander." he said, quickly moving to one of the terminals and calling to Rosaleen "I'll grab engineering and Tactical, can you grab Comms and Navigation?" he asked as his eye roamed the display to co-ordinate their efforts quickly, opening up the details and beginning to transfer it to his tricorder.

Ileah had quietly moved to the Communications console and lean slightly so she could access the damage.. It was slightly charred from the small circuit over leads and some darkening from the bridge fires that often occur with combat.

"I was a Communication study..." ILeah said over her shoulder. "A girl has to have some talents over dictation and making great coffee."

Ileah smiled as the power flowed into the console, she had to appraise the proper connections to the computer core. "DO we have a status of power to the Computer Core." She asked. "I have some power here but the return relay from the Core reads it as on Standby and only Battery Back-up. Might be a hardware connection before we can access any real Data from there." She glanced over her shoulder. Toss me a spanner and I could see what Damage Control training I can put to use?"

Torvin sighed "Yeah, I was hoping that wasn't going to happen." he sighed in annoyance. He put it aside quickly and nodded to Ileah as he grabbed a spanner and passed it over to her "And I certainly won't say no to more hands!" before looking to Jonathan "Permission to go turn the ship off and on again sir?" he joked faintly.

"Whatever you feel you need to do, Lieutenant," Johnathan authorized, moving over to join him. "Just make sure that you don't accidentally corrupt the logs before we have the chance to download them."

"Of course sir! Don't worry. I'm sure she'll be just fine!" he said pushing through commands on an already flickering control panel, looking to Ileah "I'm diverting computer priority to your terminal. Hopefully I can get just enough juice out of this core for you to grab the data. My hands are going to be pretty full keeping her going. So grab what any of you need from the systems and quick" he said hitting a few more buttons "Here goes nothing..."

For a second the ship goes dark, hauntingly quiet until the lights flicker back on, the ship jostling as the core is booted back up and the bridge receives a flood of warning lights and the warning cry of red alert goes to full effect, a few consoles on the edge sparking as old, damaged circuits are flooded with power again for a moment. One at his console sparking and momentarily blinding the engineer before he rushes to work.

"Crap..." Johnathan cursed under his breath.

"Yeah, the core's maintenance systems got fried. She's barely keeping stable." he said openly as he worked wildly at the console to keep the core from going wild "I won't have long, so if there are any security measures I hope you guys can bust 'em quick!"

Muttering something incoherently, Johnathan darted over to the terminal and inserted an isolinear chip, beginning the process of downloading the data.

"Come on, you piece of crap..." he grumbled, banging his fist impatiently on the side of the console. "Today, please? Before the ship comes down on top of us?"

"Just a few more seconds..." Johnathan implored as the rumbling began to intensify. "Just a few more..."

a small right light on the isolinear chip flashed three times in sequence, notifying Johnathan that the data had been successfully compiled onto the drive. Wasting no time, he practically ripped the chip straight out of the main hard drive.

"Shut it down, Lieutenant!" he called back to Torvin. "SHUT IT DOWN!!!"

The engineer barely wasted a moment, quickly running through a dance of inputs into the console "Working on it. Harder to stop an explosion than it is to start one."

Torvin looks to the screen, seeing numbers he really doesn't want to see as he puts the final input, the ships bulkheads vibrating for a moment as the old pipes reach the edge of their limit. He watches in a worry until finally the numbers start going down. His voice taking a breath of relief, turning to face them as he said with a clearly relieved smile "all good Commander, she's shutting down."

"...Is everyone alright?" Johnathan called out once the dust eventually settled.

"Seeing a couple of stars commander, but nothing the doc's can't fix." Torvin replied as he checked himself over, his head throbbed from the sudden blast of light and stress from earlier, but the engineer did his best to keep it at bay as he looked to the others.

"Right, then," Johnathan nodded. "Now that we have what we came for, what's say we get this data back to the Wayfarer and have it analyzed?"

When nobody raised an objection, Johnathan took that as his go-ahead and radio back.

=A=Commander Miller to the Wayfarer; beam us up.=A=

And with that, the five of them disappeared in a flash of light.
