Jurassic Klingons

Mission: Deep Space Nine
Location: DS9
Timeline: MD-02

ON:

Avery’s lungs felt like fire as she ran through the docking ring corridors, fleeing a Klingon determined to enact revenge for her misdeeds. In her younger years (fifteen years old to be exact) she had stolen Captain Krovuk Mog’s bat’leth, encased it in jello while he slept and then put it on display in the middle of the ship's mess hall. He was visiting the ship that Avery resided on and at that age, she was often getting into mischief. Needless to say, he did not appreciate seeing his bat’leth on public display, confined inside a jiggly green goo. Upon discovering that it was Avery who had enacted the foul deed, he declared to one day get revenge. It was a mere stroke of unfortunate luck that the Wayfarer was docked at DS9 at the same time as Captain Mog’s ship and even more unfortunate that he had spotted her walking around the promenade about fifteen minutes earlier.

Maybe I’ve finally lost him, she thought as she looked over her shoulder, continuing to run. What she failed to see is the Captain of the Wayfarer rounding the corner in front of her. Just as she turned her head to look straight again, Captain Meezo came into view, but it was too late to stop her momentum and she pummeled straight into him.

The two officers crashed to the floor with a loud thump. The Captain was dazed for a moment, but then started to realise that it was his own Chief Engineer that had run into him. He got to his feet relatively quickly and helped the woman to her feet, “Avery? Should I even ask why you’re running around the station at this time?”

“Ummm, funny story,” she laughed nervously. “I may have pulled a childish prank on a Klingon Captain once when I was 15 and he just so happens to be on the station and possibly wants revenge for making him look like a fool.”

Just as she finished her sentence, Captain Mog rounded the corner.

Avery grabbed onto Mike’s arm and pulled him down the corridor. Before the Captain could even process what was happening, he was running away from the Klingon too! It reminded him of his cadet years when he and his friends would intentionally harass some Nausicaans purely for a chase and a fight!

Paxton zipped past a few crewmen in the corridors, still holding onto Mike’s arm tightly. They could hear Captain Mog shouting obscenities at them in Klingon, but thankfully couldn’t make out any of the words.

“How have I ended up being literally dragged into this, Lieutenant?!” Mike shouted towards his Engineer. “Maybe we should stop and talk to him? Make him see sense before he beats us both to a pulp?”

She made a quick turn into an empty corridor and slipped into an alcove, then doubled over, panting for breath. “Sir? Stop and talk? To a Klingon? Maybe you’ve had better luck with Klingons than I have, but I’ve never found diplomacy to be their strong suit. If you want to stop and talk, I suggest we at least pick up a couple of phasers first, just in case.”

The Captain looked towards his officer, and felt his heart do the stupid fluttering again like it had on the Avenger. Now was not the time, no matter how exciting it felt. He grabbed her by the arm and looked into her eyes, “Well if we’re not going to talk Lieutenant, then we’ll damn well fight!”

He pulled his companion back out into the corridor so that the irate Klingon Captain could see them, and started running towards the promenade. “Do you know the holosuite at Quark’s?” He called over to Paxton. “We should get in there and use that to our advantage somehow!”

“Yea, and Quark owes me a favor or two so we should be able to get in one on short notice!” She said as they ran. A few moments later, they reached the bar. Avery leaped towards the counter and looked at Quark with a fire in her eyes. “I need a holosuite….NOW!” She stated. Quark started to argue, but thought better of it and agreed. He did however insist on double payment, an extra last minute reservation fee and then added on any reparations for damages once he saw the angry Klingon headed in their direction.

“Computer, start program, Jurassic World. Begin right after the Dimorphodons escape.” Avery yelled upon entering. The room changed. Suddenly they were standing right next to a man holding a margarita in each hand in the middle of the dinosaur themed park. A second later, the sky was filled with giant flying creatures darting from the sky towards the holographic theme park guests. Avery quickly grabbed one of the drinks in the man’s hand and downed it. She felt like she could use some liquid courage if she was going to both be dodging dinosaurs and an angry Klingon.

“This is some programme!” Mike shouted over the screams of people that now filled the area. “I don’t think I’ve seen this one before!”

He noticed a man in the distance who looked strangely familiar, almost as though he was looking in a mirror. He shook off the feeling of deja vu and turned around to see Captain Mog entering the holosuite. “You pair of Ql’haH!” He bellowed as he continued to stalk them.

“Come on,” Mike ordered, “I’ve got an idea! I’ve just spotted that large swimming pool or whatever it is over there, let’s get him into the drink somehow? There’s no dinosaurs in there though, right?”

Right as he finished his question, the massive Mosasaurus that resided in the pool sprung up, leaping into the air before crashing back down into the water. “No offense sir, but I don’t think I like your idea.” She said, eyes wide in shock from seeing the sheer mass of the aquatic dinosaur that had just emerged. Truth be told she had never played this program before, but her father had shown her the movie a while back. She wasn’t sure why she thought to play this one until she spotted the main character, Owen, and realized that he was the spitting image of the Captain. Being with the Captain must have triggered the memory of the movie.

She reached back in her mind trying to think of what to do next. “If I remember correctly, there’s a massive T-Rex in the cage right over there,” she pointed across the main road drag of the theme park. “If we have the computer open that gate, the dinosaur should come out and distract Captain Mog long enough for us to sneak behind him and get the first jump in the fight.”

Mike nodded, a determined look in his eyes, “Let’s do this.” He spoke loudly, “Computer, unlock and open the gate leading into the T-Rex cage.” The familiar bleeps of the computer acknowledging the order echoed around the park for a moment. The large door opened and a full sized T-Rex came stomping out of the cage just as Captain Mog caught up with the Wayfarer officers.

“What on No’Mat is that beast?” He questioned, his mouth wide open in surprise. He turned around until he unwittingly had his back to Mike and Avery. The two of them nodded as they both raised a pair of chairs above their heads. They brought them down forcefully onto the back of the Klingon’s head, knocking him to the floor.

They both stood there for a minute, waiting to see if the Klingon would make another move, but it appeared as though the blunt force of two chairs had done the trick. Suddenly the floor shook. They looked up to see the massive T-Rex blundering towards them with impressive speed. “Computer, end program!” Avery shouted just before the massive creature reached the spot where they were standing.

Avery let out a sigh of exhaustion and leaned against the holosuite’s wall processing everything that had just happened. She had no idea what the Captain thought, but didn’t think it could be anything good after she had dragged him through docking corridors and made him confront a holosuite full of angry dinosaurs and a hell bent Klingon.

The man stepped closer to the woman, not giving anything away. Finally he spoke, “Can I interest you in a drink Avery?”
