Mission: The Avenger
Location: USS Avenger - Main Engineering
Timeline: Present

:ON:

“Commander Davis, right?” Avery inquired as she approached who she believed to be the Avenger’s CEO. Captain Dante had called down to engineering just before to alert him of Avery & Tyvok’s arrival. “That’s right!” Davis said as he turned to face the newly arrived pair. “I heard that you and Mr.Tyvok were coming down to give us a hand, is that right?”

Avery was momentarily stunned as Davis turned around. Being an avid history buff she had read everything about the early NX class cruises and had even seen pictures of Davis in the history books. However, standing in front of the tall, dirty blond, well built engineering god was another matter entirely.

“Uh, that’s right,” she said, quickly regaining her composure, “Tyvok here is a computer systems specialist, and a good one at that. He should be able help get those systems back in working order. I specialize more on the mechanics side, but I’m well versed in all of the NX class engineering systems so send me wherever you need the most help.”

“Excellent,” Davis turned to Tyvok, ”Ensign, if you want to head up to the second level and help reroute systems from the processors that were fried in the last attack, that would be great.” Tyvok nodded in response and dismissed himself.

“Lieutenant, how do you feel about helping me get these impulse engines back online?” Davis asked. “Sure thing!” She replied, trying not to sound overly eager. Truth be told, Avery would’ve been happy to do just about anything with her childhood hero that had suddenly come to life in front of her.

They each grabbed a repair kit and quickly made their way to one of the access tunnels. “We’ll fix the primary driver coil first, then we’ll need to purge the impulse reactor. After that we can look at getting the warp engines in working order,” Davis listed off the repair order. This is better than shore leave, Avery thought to herself as she entered the access tunnel behind him. Not only was she getting to crawl around and make repairs with an engineering legend, the view as she entered behind Davis wasn’t half bad either.

Together they removed the access panel to the driver coil and leaned in to survey the damage. “One of the toroids was knocked loose,“ Avery pointed to one of the six split toroids in the primary driver coil system. “I think if we just reconnect it and realign the system we should be good.” Davis examined the area she had pointed out, “you’re right!” He stated, giving Avery a look of approval. “Do you think you can squeeze far enough in there to get it reconnected?”

“Yep,” she stated as she inched farther into the panel, reached up and reconnected the dislodged piece, “Try it now.” Davis typed away on the interface mechanism working to get the system realigned and booted back up. After a few moments, the previously dead system glowed back to life.

After taking a moment to admire their work, Davis motioned towards the access tunnel’s exit. “Shall we?” He asked. “I believe that impulse reactor is still begging to be purged.” Avery chuckled, “I guess we’d better get going then. We can’t sit around gawking at our beautiful handiwork all day.”

Within a half hour of exiting the tunnel, the impulse reactor had been purged. “You know what? I think we make a pretty good team,” Davis looked at Avery and smiled. Avery hung on every word that left the engineering god’s lips and almost melted with his most recent statement. “Thanks, I’d have to agree,” she replied, blushing, but trying not to make it too obvious that she was completely enthralled with his company.

Davis pressed the com button on the wall. “Davis to Dante, impulse engines are back up. Lt.Paxton and I are going to work on the warp drive next, but it’s in pretty bad shape. It may take a few hours.”

“You get that warp drive up as quickly as possible,” Dante replied, sounding distressed.

“Captain?” Davis asked, worried by his captain’s last response. There was no reply.

Avery looked Davis in the eyes, “I don’t know what’s going on up there, but I suggest we get to work on that warp drive, quick.”
