[USS Wayfarer - Main Engineering}

Avery’s mind was rattling with questions and preparation plans as she left the mission briefing. Massive electromagnetic interference? Great, just what I need on my first posting as Chief Engineer she thought.

Upon arriving in engineering, Avery went straight to her office and started scrolling through her PADD. If they were going to run into anything that could mess with her pristine new systems, she was going to find ways to combat it. Avery was an avid consumer of anything related to engineering systems and was devoted to keeping up with the latest technology trends.

She stopped mid scroll and tilted her head, as if that would help access a vague memory. Wasn’t there a report from the USS Lexington a while back that discussed upgrades to help temper electromagnetic interference? She returned to her PADD and started searching. There it was, a few reports down in the list that appeared from her search. After reading the report, and everything else she could find concerning electromagnetic interference, she called for an all hands engineering meeting.

“We have six hours to get our systems in the best shape possible for what might lie ahead,” she stated to her team. “We need to upgrade the load tolerances on the EPS conduits, reinforce shielding around the warp core and boost efficiency to the impulse engines. I’m going to need each of you to dig deep and put forth your best work for these next few hours so that we can get these upgrades done.”

She split the team into two, one team to handle the shielding and one to work on increasing efficiency to the impulse engines. After handing each team a PADD with the updated engineering specs, Avery moved towards the center console to start making the load tolerance upgrades to the EPS conduits.

She had spent most of the night before in engineering getting to know her new systems, which meant that she wasn't running on a full tank of sleep. That combined with the 4 hours she had already been on duty for since this morning and the 6 more it would take to get these upgrades done meant she was in for a long day. But Avery's duty was to the ship and she'd put in whatever time was necessary to make sure they were prepared.
