A New Ship, Needs More Magic.

Mission: Nothing To Fear...
Location: Starbase 57 & USS Wayfarer

Akeno Misaki ran three fingers across the rank pips on her collar. Yesterday she had been a Lieutenant and only two gold rounded pips had been present. Today however, after recieving her orders a third full gold pip now sat the other two, neatly lined in a row. She hadn't expected to be field promoted to that of Full Commander when she had been accepted as the new Executive Officer of the Starship Wayfarer.

She had her work cut out for her however. She had spent the last couple of hours updating herself with the status of the vessel. After its last mission many of the crew had been lost, the ship had been rather damaged and now sat in one of Starbase 57's spacedocks undergoing repairs.

The Intrepid Class vessel was packed full of highly advanced technology, many of which had only been developed before the Dominion War. Variable Geometry warp nacelles, a new class nine warp drive system, bio-neural gel packs and the ability to land on planet surfaces were just a few of the new systems that Akeno noted. It was an impressive starship, she was looking forward to getting aboard and meeting the crew.

The young Japanese woman, with light brown hair and shining blue eyes stared out of the viewports at the Wayfarer. The ship was much smaller than the Monitor, the Excelsior Class she had served on previously. In her opininon it looked kind of 'cute'.

"Excuse me Commander" an ensign dressed in gold security uniform greeted her. "Are you Commander Akeno Misaki?" he asked nervously. Akeno turned on a heel and faced the young security officer, he couldn't be any older than twenty three. Probably fresh out of Starfleet Academy.

"Indeed I am. How can I help you Ensign?" she asked softly. She remembered being that rank, it was always nerve wracking when speaking to the higher ranks. Now she was one of them, and much sooner than she had expected. Since the end of the war many good officers had found themselves being promoted sooner to fill in the chain of command across the entire fleet. She was no exception to this.

"Yes sir" he replied. "I am your escort over to the Wayfarer. I have a shuttlecraft standing by on landing pad thirty six" he explained.

Akeno simply smiled at the young ensign. "Good work Ensign. Then how about we take a fly over there. Oh and Ensign..." he looked up at her, his eyes meeting with hers for a few seconds before he turned away. "Relax a little will you, there's no need to be nervous. I'm not going to bite, are you assigned to the ship as well?" she asked.

The young man hesitated. "Erm, yes Commander. I am"

"And I imagine you have a name correct? I think it's a bit impersonal to be calling you by rank all the time" Akeno smiled as she held out a hand to indicate for him to lead the way. He took the hint and began to lead her towards the landing pad.

"Yes Commander. I'm Ensign Keith Winters". He was indeed nervous. By the looks of him this was probably his first assignment ever. Akeno had a total newbie on her hands, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. At least she could provide him with a fairly good first assignment, or so she thought...

The Wayfarer was in much worse shape than Akeno had expected as she stepped down off the shuttle in its small rear shuttlebay. The ship had been badly beaten up, conduits lay open as well as wiring and some of the consoles were still flickered.

Whatever had happened had put the ship through hell, although engineering and operations teams were scattered across the ship currently engaged in repairs. She had never stepped foot on an Intrepid Class Starship before, so this was all new territory for Akeno.

She found an currently working and active computer interface console. "Computer, this is Commander Akeno Misaki" she said placing her right index finger on the smooth black surface of the panel. "Transfer all command codes as Executive Officer to me, by orders of Starfleet Command" she said. The computer beeped a few times and the computer console lit up brightly.

"Command Codes transferred. Commander Akeno Misaki is now accepted as the Executive Officer of the Federation Starship Wayfarer" The computers monotone female voice replied. Akeno smiled, at least Starfleet had uploaded her orders into the ships computers.

"Ok, lets see what we have here" she said to herself as she began to tap away at the computer panel to bring up the ships master systems display. Not only was it a map of the vessel, which would help her to get a grasp of the layout of the ship, but it also showed the status of the primary and secondary systems.

"Well" she said. "Turbolifts are working, we've got partial main power. Warp drive is offline, sensors are short range only, shields and weapons are all but offline and transporters are also down. That would explain the shuttle ride" she sighed. "I have my work cut out for me" she checked the chronometer. The new Captain would be coming aboard in a few days. She didn't exactly feel comfortable handing over a ship in this condition to a new Captain. Time to work her magic and rally what crew the Wayfarer had together to get this boat back some what operational.
