{USS Wayfarer, Captain’s Quarters}

The monotonous voice of the computer spoke suddenly, “The time is 0700.”

Mike groaned and rolled onto his side, covering his head with a pillow. How could it possibly be 0700 hours already? He felt like he’d only just gone to bed!

He got himself upright and sat on the edge of his bed. His head felt like it had been through a cheese grater, and the nausea washed over him uncomfortably. He hadn’t experienced a hangover this bad since his graduation night. He swore to himself that he would never drink again, but also knew that he wasn’t making any promises.

Taking some brave steps towards the bathroom, he stepped into the sonic shower and set the temperature to 10°c, hoping the cold would wake him up a bit.

{An Hour Later}

The Captain stepped onto the bridge, and frowned at how bright the lights were. He was sure they were never normally this bright! He blinked a few times to allow for his eyes to adjust.

“Good morning Captain,” Ensign Reynolds stood up from the command chair, somewhere she had been sitting since her watch had started at midnight, “Nothing to report from gamma shift other than we are still docked at Deep Space Nine.”

Mike bowed his head in acknowledgement. “Thank you Ensign, I hope you have a nice rest.”

The woman turned for a moment as she made her way into the turbolift and smiled, “Only a few hours in bed this morning sir, then I’m heading for those Dabo tables on the station.”

As the rest of alpha shift arrived and gamma shift departed, Mike slipped into the command chair and wished he had a pair of sunglasses right now.
