Mission: The Avenger
Location: The Avenger, Deck G, the Sensor Array Section
Timeline: After "What Beautiful Dreams"

ON:
“You got a name?” Nyysa asked the officer assigned to tag along with her. She couldn't refer to him as 'hey, you'. It's rude.

He gave her a look. “Everyone has a name, ma’am.”

“You might be surprised at how untrue that is,” she told him. As an orphan, she was relatively lucky, but she was well aware that there were plenty of kids in the galaxy that weren’t and aren’t. “Maldonado.”

“Peterson.” Pausing for a second, he seemed to be mulling something over in his head.

“It’s heady, isn’t it? We didn’t know what we’d find and now we’re on a ship from hundreds of years in our past and you’re all alive.” She smiled.

“Something like that. I mean, you say you’re from the future and you’re here but…”

“That’s temporal mechanics for ya. I assume you’re not a scientist.”

“I could be,” Peterson told her. “How did you…?”

“Your captain seems the practical sort, he wouldn’t waste a scientist as an escort or a guard.” If she read him right, and she’s sure she did, Captain Dante would use his scientists to figure out the anomaly or work on improving the shields or, depending on what kind of scientist they are, to help out in medical. The engineers also had plenty to do too. “Security… and this is your first tour.”

“Guilty as charged. Graduated from the academy early to leave with the Avenger. The Romulans have been relentless.”

“Sorry to report that that doesn’t really change in the future. They don’t focus on us all the time, thankfully, but they never really let up.”

Ducking under a beam, him more than her, Nyysa and Peterson arrived outside the room that held the primary components of the sensor array. The security officer hit the control to open the door and the pair was met with darkness. It wouldn’t be odd if not for the fact that the emergency lighting in the corridor was just fine.

“Where is everyone?” Nyysa muttered as she slowly entered the room. Spotting a leg, the Wayfarer’s chief scientist made a move to help the person on the ground. Apparently, that was the wrong move.

The blow to her head came out of nowhere. Before she could even attempt to defend herself, Nyysa was slammed against the bulkhead and went down hard. Despite her best attempt to do something, anything, her eyesight began to go fuzzy at the edges. She managed to catch a glimpse of Peterson hitting the deck, a figure above him. Grabbing her phaser, Nyysa let off a shot, that went wide, before the figure stepped on her hand, breaking some of the bones.

He didn’t say anything, just gave her a look, took the weapon and left the room, stepping over Peterson as he did.

Pushing herself up with one arm, she practically crawled to the young security officer. Reaching out with her uninjured hand, she pressed her fingers against his neck and found nothing. No breathing, no pulse. He was a gone.

“Shit.”

Nyysa hit her combadge with her good hand, =/\= Maldonado to Meezo. Whole team in the sensor array is dead, my escort too, and a Romulan has my phaser. Tell Hayes to stop by when he gets a second. I’m gonna see if I can find out what this guy was up to. Maldonado out. =/\=

Taking a deep breath, she used the console next to her to pull herself up before cradling her broken hand against her chest. “Solve the big problem.”
