Mission: The Avenger
Location: USS Wayfarer & USS Avenger
Timeline: Present

:ON:

Mike walked into transporter room one and waited for his senior staff to arrive. He felt nervous, anxious, and yet somehow excited all at the same time. The temporal prime directive was swirling around in his mind, but it was something he would need to worry about once they got back to the 24th century. If they ever got back. For now, his focus was on the Avenger, and assisting her in any way he could.

Suddenly, the doors opened and some of his crew started to make their way into the room.

Avery had practically sprinted into the transporter room, sporting her new fauxhawk haircut that she had decided on after scorching off a couple inches of hair when the EPS conduit erupted in engineering earlier that day. The Captain was already there waiting. “Good afternoon, sir.” she said upon entering, trying to sound calm and casual though on the inside she almost couldn’t contain herself. Avery loved history and had a soft spot for NX class ships. She had seen plenty in museums back on Earth, but to actually get her hands on one and repair it was practically a dream come true.

Tyvok was soon behind her, carrying his engineering kit. He powered up his arm computer, and directed it to start bringing down schematics of the NX Class, along with interfacing instructions for old-style duotronic computer systems. Tyvok looked up to the Captain, attempting to hid his nervousness. "Captain, I understand I am fresh out of the academy, and it may not be my place... but it is my duty to remind you that according to history, the Avenger disappeared in 2160. If we recover the ship and help the crew, we may irreversibly damage the timeline, in direct violation of the Temporal Prime Directive."

Rosaleen was practically on Avery's heels as she rushed into the transporter room carrying two small cases. Her first task was going to be to make room for one of their Type 11a's to be able to berth in the Avenger's hangerdeck, so they would be able to ferry over equipment and supplies as needed. Then she would dig into the ships power grid and try to make sense of it.

Scott came into the transporter room, still not exactly sure why he was here, but thankful to be getting off the ship for a short while despite the circumstances. With him, he carried a medical kit in a case slung around his neck like a messenger bag. "Captain," he nodded, "Lieutenant, nice was to style your hair. That seemed to have been the best option after all," he said, turning to Avery and smiling. "The quicker this gets started, the quicker we can all get back for a drink," Scott said somewhat nervously.

"A drink would be nice," Nyysa said, catching the tail-end of Doctor Hayes' comment as she stepped into the transporter room. Analysis kit slung over her shoulder and phaser on her hip, she scanned the room carefully before her eyes focused on the captain. Other than the CMO, who everyone has to see at some point, the captain was the only person she's had more than a passing conversation with.

"Sir, Humans and Orions didn't exactly get along when the Avenger disappeared. I know you need me here, but we should be mindful of that. You know, so I don't get shot."

Meezo nodded in agreement. He completely understood how the woman felt, and sympathised. “I need my Chief Science Officer on this away mission, especially given the exceptional circumstances the Wayfarer finds itself in currently.”

"Understood, sir. I just wanted to put that on the record. This is too good to pass up. Might even be worth getting shot," Nyysa replied with a slightly amused tone.

The assembled team stepped onto the transporter pads and waited for the Captain’s order to beam over. “Chief, get us onto the Avenger’s bridge in one piece.” He nodded with a smile towards the Chief Petty Officer who was manning the controls, and they were away.

{USS Avenger, Main Bridge}

The officers materialized in an impressive shimmering blue glow on the bridge of the NX-class vessel.

“Who the hell are you?” the Captain of the Avenger queried as the transport completed. Not being familiar with Starfleet uniforms from the future, he wasn’t sure if the team was some sort of boarding party or the miracle he needed to get the ship back in working order.

Mike cleared his throat and stepped forward, “My name is Captain Michael Meezo of the Federation starship Wayfarer, and these are some of my crew. Captain John Dante isn’t it?”

The Avenger’s Captain looked confused, “Two questions; what is the Federation, and how do you know my name?”

Mike quickly remember that it was 2160, and the Federation wasn’t founded until 2161. Any discussions that were happening during this time period between Earth and other worlds would have been confidential and not common knowledge.

“The Federation is what the Coalition of Planets will become. Over 150 planetary governments will come together in peace.” Mike explained, “as for your name... that is a little harder to explain.”

“Try me.” Captain Dante said bluntly.

Mike looked around at the Wayfarer crew, knowing he was about to break the temporal prime directive. History had recorded the Avenger as missing. What would become of the present timeline if things were changed in the past? He couldn’t think about that right now. “Captain, my crew and I, my ship... we’re from the year 2376. We crossed through a spacial anomaly and found ourselves right here. We are happy to offer you any assistance you require.”

Although intrigued by Meezo’s statement, he wasn’t entirely convinced. “How do I know what you’re saying is true?”

Avery couldn’t take it anymore, all of this talk was just an inefficient waste of time. “Look, no offense sir, but we’re here and we’re willing to help. From what I can tell, you’ve taken a lot of damage and it looks like there’s plenty of casualties to go around too. You can accept our help, or we can sit around all day talking. I know I for one would like to get down to engineering and help your team with repairs. I’m guessing you’ll want working engines when whoever did this comes back.”

Dante narrowed his eyes for a moment, sizing up the situation before responding. “I suppose we’re in no shape to turn down help,” he said. “We were recently attacked by the Romulans. We managed to fight them off, but I’m sure it won’t be long before they’re back for another round. Engineering is on decks D & E, they’ll need whatever help you can spare. Sickbay is inundated with casualties on deck E also. The phase cannons took heavy damage along with the sensors, those are on decks F & G respectively.”

“With your permission sir?” Avery raised an eyebrow and looked at Captain Meezo for permission to head out.

Mike bowed his head, incredibly impressed by the woman. She would surely make command material one day, but for now she needed to roll up her sleeves down in the Avenger’s engineering department. “Let me know if you need any more hands or resources, Lieutenant.”

Avery grabbed the repair kit. “Tyvok, you’re with me,” she said before glancing at Scott, “we’re going to start with engineering on the same deck as sickbay, you can come with us if you want.”

Tyvok nodded and followed her, "Hopefully I will be able to interface with their duotronic systems. My father was something of a collector, and I used to tinker with an old protein resequencer he kept from this era."

“Oh, and by the way, we think a few Romulans may have beamed aboard while our shields were down so be careful as you make your way through the ship,” Dante piped up as he remembered the important detail.

Mike could have face palmed in front of his 22nd century counterpart. What an important detail to miss! “Everyone be careful and don’t become isolated on your own!” he shouted towards the departing trio.

"I can head to G and take a look at those sensors, sirs. There's no telling what's in this nebula. Perhaps the Avenger's scans can help us sort it out," Nyssa said. "I would appreciate some backup." Captain Dante gave her a weary look, at which she smiled. "I read the report about the Orions that tried to take Enterprise. I assure you any attraction to me is of one's volition. I'm a Starfleet officer, same as you, sir." After a look at her captain, Dante nodded and motioned for one of his officers to accompany her. With that, Nyysa swifty made her way out of the room.

Rosaleen stepped up to Michael. "Sir, with your permission I would like to head down to the hangar deck and see if we can get everything operational and possibly make room for an 11a or Polaris. Also..." Rosaleen paused for a moment, trying to decide if she was overstepping. "...might I suggest that we put a pair of our Razors out on alert patrol. The should be able to give us a few minutes heads up in case we receive company." The fighters were a new addition to the Intrepid Class, having only been added after the redesign of the hangar spaces during the last refit.

Mike smiled. Rosaleen’s starfleet service record pointed towards the fact that she was a fantastic operations officer, and now he was seeing this for himself. “Do what you think is best, Lieutenant. But please be mindful of the temporal prime directive.” Mike almost laughed. He hadn’t taken much notice of the directive himself, and felt incredibly hypocritical. “Minimize footfall on the hangar deck.”

"I'll try my best." Rosaleen replied, then went about sending the tasking order to Flight Ops. With that task completed, she headed off towards the ships hanger deck. She wanted to be ready for any surprise that might await them.

Maddox and a single Security officer where part of the team that had also beamed to the USS Avenger. His counterpart on the avenger was a tall and elegant looking woman around mid 40s. She found the whole situation ‘off’ that a ship from another time frame was in the same space and the crew where on her ship. Maddox contemplated reveling more but some thing stopped him. Lt. Joanne Kessler was the name of the Avenger’s Chief Security Officer.

"Lt. Kessler, or can I call you Jo? In our database your ship is listed as missing in 2160. We were sent to investigate a reappearance years later.”

The woman considered here reply for a second "Commander if what you’re saying is true, I still find it hard to understand how a ship from the future arrived in this time."

Maddox had to agree there. "Look Jo, we were astonished to even find the crew still alive on this ship. And we find that we are the crew in the wrong time."

Jo was puzzled. "I don't get how we, an NX-class ship, come from to ship like the USS Wayfarer. She is a mighty looking ship."

Maddox did not argue with that. "Look we can sort out the ships basic needs from our computers files we can recreate parts for you engineers from the ship. Captain Meezo is an understanding man and we were the ones who ended up here.”

Captain Meezo stepped forward and stood next to Captain Dante, “Everyone, try not to get too excited. Let’s just get this job done and figure out a way of getting back to the 24th century.” he looked at the remaining Wayfarer crew that were still on the bridge, “12 hours and we’re gone.”
