The Chosen

Mission: The Games
Location: Sickbay

The senior staff meeting wrapped up quickly, and Mark wasted no time making his way through the Wayfarer’s corridors toward his domain—Sickbay.

Upon arrival, he found his medical team already assembled, punctual as always for their scheduled briefing. The biobeds were finally all cleared, and no patients were currently under treatment—something he considered a small but significant victory.

“All accounted for,” said Molly, the senior nurse who had been his right hand through countless tasks.

“Thank you,” he replied with a warm smile before hopping onto one of the biobeds and addressing the team.

“I’ll keep this short so that even those off duty won’t have to spend too much of their free time here.”

A few knowing smiles and nods followed—no one ever complained about a concise meeting. Wasting no time, Mark went through the key points: medical training updates, follow-up visits for the crew, and a final review of upcoming procedures. Once the checklist was complete, he dismissed the team.

As the medics and nurses filtered out, he spotted Lieutenant JG Voss and motioned him over.

“Paul,” he began, watching the young officer approach. “I figured you might want to stretch your legs on a real planet.” His lips curled into a slight grin as he caught the spark of curiosity on the lieutenant’s face. “We’re approaching an M-class planet with a warp-capable civilization.”

Paul’s expression brightened with anticipation.

“It’s not a first-contact mission,” Mark continued, “but we’re acting as Federation delegates, and the captain wants a medical officer on the away team. Interested?”

“Absolutely, sir. I’d love to,” Paul answered eagerly. “Any specifics on what to bring?”

Mark shook his head. “Just the standard away team medical kit. Anything else, the Wayfarer will be right above us in orbit, ready to provide support if needed.”

Paul nodded. “Understood. I’ll get myself prepped.”

“Good. Meet the team in Transporter Room One when you're ready. Thanks, Paul.”

With a quick nod, Lt Voss turned and headed off, leaving Mark with a rare moment of satisfaction. A cleared Sickbay, a well-prepared team, and now a chance to see one of his own take the next step in field experience. Not a bad way to start the day.
