Mission: In The Beginning...
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Present

ON:
Nyysa sighed as she stepped out of one of the transporter rooms on the Wayfarer and looked around. It was odd, going from the lived-in feel of a Klingon vessel to the almost hospital-like feeling of this one. Everything was brand new, untested, sterile. That’s not to say anything was wrong with clean, she was a scientist after all, but there was something to be said for that homey feeling other ships had. She was doubtful that she was alone in those thoughts.

After a quick check in and a stop to find out her room assignment and get her credentials synced up, Nyysa figured that she might as well suck it up and it get it over with. Navigating her way around, she found and stepped into a turbolift. “Computer, where’s the captain?”

“Captain Meezo is in his ready room on the bridge,” came the cool, monotone response.

“To the bridge then,” Nyysa ordered.

It didn’t take long, it rarely ever does, before the doors opened to the Wayfarer’s bridge. There were officers milling about with their various tasks but overall the place didn’t seem too busy. Looking around the room, Nyysa spotted the door she was looking for.

Taking a deep breath, she requested access to the room and was met with a swift, yet tired “enter.”

Walking through the door, Nyysa didn’t know what to expect. She observed him for a couple seconds, noting that he seemed a bit overwhelmed. Being a new captain is difficult, more so if you’re also handed a new ship on top that.

“Lieutenant Nyysa Maldonado, reporting for duty as Chief Science Officer,” she said, fighting the urge to tack on a snarky remark. Maybe when they know each other better, she can get away with it, until then, Nyysa wasn’t going to start off on the wrong foot.

“It’s nice to meet you, Lieutenant. I’m Captain Michael Meezo.” He stood and offered her a hand, which she shook.

Nyysa wondered just how many times he’s had to introduce himself to people over the last day or so. Most captains got to pick at least some of their crew but that didn’t seem to be the case here. The real question is why? Why did Starfleet pluck them all from their previous assignments and drop them with a newbie captain?

“Yea, that’s pretty much the only thing I know about this assignment, sir. I do some of my best work flying blind, but I’m sure you’ll fill us all in on the rest later,” she told him, setting up an exit from the conversation so he could get back to work and hoping like hell he took it. Nyysa had some stuff to do before they disembarked too.

“There will be a briefing for senior staff tomorrow morning,” Meezo told her, a bit distracted. “I apologize for…”

“Being busy? Don’t worry about it, sir. Just a small piece of advice; if it can be delegated, delegate it,” Nyysa said, passing on her father’s words. “In the meantime, I should probably go see the labs and find my quarters?”

Mike smiled. Another new crew member that appeared to understand him. “We’ll talk later, Lieutenant. You’re dismissed.”

Well, that was easy.
