The Start of a New Chapter

Mission: In The Beginning...
Location: USS Wayfarer

Rosaleen grabbed her go-bag and made her way to the runabouts exit, her first destination being the Quartermaster's office, which was located just to the port side of the hanger deck. She immediately noticed that the Wayfarer had the upgraded hanger deck, which was much more spacious than the original design.

'So much the better. At least I have something to work with.'

Intrepids had a reputation for being...well, not quite user friendly. Fortunately, most of the shortcomings of the original design had been addresses in the two subsequent design upgrades. However there where still a few bugs to work out. She had spent some of her transit time studying the Wayfarer's specs and was pleased that she had been updated with the Cerberus Logistic System, along with several updates to the ships power distribution and damage control systems.

The visit to the Quartermaster's office only took a few minutes; she was quickly given her room assignment, had her orders verified (an odd sequence to be sure), and had her credentials and access permissions added to the ships computer. After verifying that her personal effects would be delivered to her quarters, she exited the ships Flight Operations facility and made her way to the proper lift to the Bridge, as she had been instructed to report in with the CO as soon as she arrived, and he was currently located in the Captain's Ready Room. Entering the lift alone, she steeled herself for what may be awaiting her. There was always so much suspicion of her kind.

As the lift came to a halt and the doors opened, she stepped tentatively onto the Bridge, immediately relieved to find the few individuals occupying it too involved in their tasks to pay her any notice. Rosaleen quickly made her way to the Ready Room door, and pressed the chime. As the doors opened, she hesitated the briefest of moments before stepping through. She was too nervous to even notice that a chill started to fall over the room as she moved to stand in front of the Captain's desk.

When Rosaleen spoke, her voice was soft. "Sir...Lieutenant O'Donnell reporting for duty." Her words betrayed any confidence that may have still existed within her, but she did manage to make eye contact. Her eyes has turned to a light crystal blue, appearing almost like ice.

The last couple of days had been stressful for Starfleet’s newest Captain. The Wayfarer was nearly ready for departure and had already been assigned its first mission. Mike was looking over this mission on his computer point when his door chime had called out to him.

“A pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant. My name is Captain Michael Meezo.” The Captain spoke slowly, yet authoritatively towards the woman that stood before him. He was still getting accustomed to his new rank, but it was definitely growing on him. At first he felt uneasy with his new rank. Almost as though he was a fake, and someone would find him out at any moment and kick him off the ship. But anyone who read his service record would see he was no fake.

“I’ve been reading over your personnel file. Impressive, Lieutenant. Very impressive. How do you think you’ll do on this ship as part of my crew?” Mike leaned back in his chair and interlocked his fingers behind his head. “As Chief of Operations & Logistics, you’ll have a heck of a lot of expectation on your shoulders.”

'He's so different from Kathleen.' Rosaleen thought as her eyes flickered downward for a brief moment. He was gruff...very direct. The air chilled a bit more, and when she spoke her Irish accent was very prominent.

"I...uh, well sir, it has been a while since I held an Ops posting, but I haven't forgotten how to handle things. In my last post I worked very closely with Operations. Especially the Logistics side." She looked back up at him. Her eyes appeared sad...like someone who was lost and couldn't find their way home. "I will do my job sir, and do it well. I can assure you sir that you will not be disappointed with my work." Escape was the foremost thought on her mind. She had hoped that getting the meeting over with as soon as possible would have made it easier for her. She was wrong.

Mike nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer the officer had given him. “I only ask for your best Lieutenant,” he smiled warmly, “and that’s what I expect from all of the people who work alongside me.”

He got to his feet and crossed over to Rosaleen. He extended a hand, which she shook, “Welcome aboard the Wayfarer, Lieutenant O’Donnell. I’m sorry if I seem rather off kilter right now. Call it... the stress that comes with the job. Get yourself settled in for the night, I’ll be holding a briefing for the senior staff in the morning and we’ll launch soon afterwards.”

Rosaleen quickly shook the Captain's hand and excused herself. She was through with people for the day, and just wanted to find her quarters and hide away for a bit. Tomorrow would be better. She just needed to breathe.

'Tommorow will be better.....'
