Mission:
In The Beginning...
Location: USS Wayfarer, Ready Room
:ON:
Scott had been used to last-minute assignments, but this one was cutting it a little close, even for him. This morning, he was on a starbase, by early afternoon he was standing outside his potential new Captain's office, a PADD in one hand his bag in the other. Straightening his uniform, the last check of his hair and adjusting his shoulders back and down into the traditional attention position, he pressed the chime and awaited a response.
The doors to the ready room opened. Mike remained seated behind his desk, the pile of personnel PADDs building up in front of him. The Captain waved to usher the physician forward deeper into the room and pointed towards one of two empty seats.
Scott stepped forward and took a seat. “May I have your personnel PADD with your orders please, Lieutenant?” Meezo was a bit brusque with his tone, but it was getting late into the afternoon and he’d been on his feet since 3am this morning.
"Of course, Captain, Lieutenant Scott Hayes reporting for duty on your acceptance, Sir," Scott tried to give a warm smile as he handed the PADD over, adding to what he would think would be the first thing he would treat the Captain for, a headache.
Mike read through the PADD intently. Most of it was for the sake of keeping up appearances as he already knew the crew who were coming onboard the Wayfarer. After all, he had chosen for them to be a part of the crew.
Without looking away from the PADD, Mike spoke; “It says here you applied and were accepted into the Academy at 17? Were you a bit of a child prodigy Doctor Hayes?”
"Sometimes you just get bored at school, you know?" Scott began, "Other times I think my teachers just wanted rid of me and the questioning, so encouraged me in some other directions, Captain."
Mike’s features softened, he understood how the doctor felt. He didn’t exactly have the smoothest of rides through the Academy either. He got to his feet and crossed around his desk. Hayes got to his feet also. “Welcome aboard the Wayfarer, Lieutenant.” The Captain smiled, shaking the doctor’s hand, “I’m pleased to have you onboard. I’m sure you’ll be a marvellous asset to the ship.”
"Glad to be here Captain," the doctor replied smiling, "and I do hope to see you in sickbay soon for your medical. Always good when the doctor doesn't have to hunt down the Captain."
