Sprague took another sip of the double chocolate milkshake from his reclined beach chair as the sound of crashing waves continued in the distance. "This is the life," he said, knowing his first retirement check was already in his account. No more murderous aliens, no more deadly space anomalies, and no more ships! ... But also no more Risa, he thought as the scene disappeared around him.

"Time's up, buddy," the commercial holodeck attendant called.

"Ugh," Sprague sighed as he stood and gathered his things. He thought about going to a real Earth beach, but they were always too crowded. The galaxy only had one place that still did it right.
