The IN BETWEEN Part Two

Patra was sleeping on the log bench and having such wonderful dreams when she heard a sound “Tsk, tsk. Ist es das, was Sie in den schicken Schulen gelernt haben, die Sie besucht haben? Steh auf, Kind, das ist das ZWISCHENDURCH und du musst dich entscheiden, entweder zu leben oder in dein Leben nach dem Tod überzugehen. Man kann hier nicht für die Ewigkeit trödeln.” Patra Rommel sat up upon hearing the voice, it reminded her of her grandmother. She turned and saw her Oma sitting in the meadow on a checkered blanket, a picnic basket next to her. “Oma, is that really you?” asked Patra. She barely remembered her Oma as she had died while Patra was extremely young. “Yes, child it is me. I am here because you are being a Hartnäckiger, you must chose which direction to take on your life thread. Come sit and eat. We can discuss this as you eat. Patra came over to her Oma and sat down next to her. “I brought you a Mettbrötchen and a thermos of Heiße Schokolade.” Patra took the offered meal and smiled at her Oma. She began to eat as her Oma looked on “Why do you procrastinate child? Why do you find it so hard to chose which path to take?” her Oma asked.Patra chewed on a bite of her Mettbrötchen and considered her Oma’s question. She finally swallowed her bite, took a sip of the Heiße Schokolade before she replied “I truly am not sure Oma. I feel adrift, I lost the love of my life. The one that caused such a fall out between Vati, Mutti and der Bruder. We actually were on the same mission when she died. She was a Marine lieutenant and lead her men to the last, saved my life. She visited me here, actually implored for me to return to the living, but when I think about it, my body and spirit hurt so badley.” Her Oma smiled “That is because you did great physical harm to your body child. A very nice Doctor and his staff have worked diligently to try and save you, but you must decide. The physical hurt will be temporary, the spiritual self will also heal but will take longer. If you chose your afterlife then I cannot tell you what will happen as it is different for each of us. I feel as Sabine felt you should return to the living. Reconcile with your parents and brother. Find a new love and live life to the fullest. You cannot stay forever in the IN BETWEEN as IT WILL CHOSE, and the option it choses is not a very pleasant one from what I have heard.” Patra sat there eating the Mettbrötchen and listening to her Oma. “Well child I must go, and you must decide. You look very Beautiful in that uniform and I am most proud of you.” With that Patra’s Oma faded away. Patra sighed and got up she dusted her uniform off and walked to the path by the log bench. For the first time she saw a sign with two arrows and writing under each: the left arrow stated This way to the Afterlife, the easy path the right arrow stated This way to life, the most difficult path. With one last look around the beautiful forest glade, Patra sighed and started down the right path.
