Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Haaktor's personality could be best described as "direct". He's intended to join Starfleet most of his life, having switched from Security to Ops during his time in the Academy. When he was younger, he discovered that the logistics of the ship were more interesting than direct conflict. Now, he constantly pursues the utmost standard of ship function. Like his ancestors, he's incredibly interested in how the ship handles in a fight. As a leader, when praise is due, he gives it without hesitation. The challenge is that he's just as quick to call out failures in those around him. He has not mastered the art of keeping critiques private; instead he sees them as a teaching moment to prevent others from erring. On the bright side, unlike many people with his personality type, he does take criticism onboard well enough - so long as it doesn't appear to be a personal fault. He doesn't believe that he's perfect, but believes that reaching perfection is still his ultimate goal - and his generationally-enforced mindset of leading from strengths means that he glosses over his weaknesses on occasion. He doesn't think that being corrected necessarily means he's brought shame to anyone else, sometimes not even himself as long as no one was hurt. He's blunt and rapidly adapting to Federation culture, not wholly ignorant after a decade of service. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Haaktor's greatest strength specifically as an Ops officer is an ability to cut to the heart of an issue and work to resolve it. That applies across personnel and technical issues. He's also pretty handy on repair duty, and leads by example. He's long held the belief that no leader should give an order they wouldn't be comfortable following. As a result, he considers himself an example to his teams. His biggest overall weakness is his undiplomatic way of addressing problems. While directness certainly has a place, Haaktor's cultural biases mean that he appears to be rude or unpleasant to some people around him. Counseling has been helping with this, to sand off the rough edges and explain how his perception differs from those around him. He also has a preference for direct interpersonal contact, whether that's with coworkers, friends, or even enemies; he doesn't feel quite as comfortable when technology is between him and the person he's speaking to or fighting. It's something he's working on. He's also very slightly paranoid about the intentions of women around him. Emotionally manipulative ones set him off especially strongly. Generational trauma doesn't die easily. Again, he's working on it, and has come to recognize that other species' women are not as powerful as the women of Elas. |

| Ambitions | Haaktor's long-term ambition is to be the first Federation Governor of Elas. That's necessarily downstream of a successful career that brings pride to himself and his family, having Elas (and Troyius) sponsored for full Federation citizenship, and bringing his homeworld to the 24th Century in terms of society as well as technology. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | When he's not working out plans to optimize ship's functions and improve technologically, Haaktor's mind turns toward hobbies that remind him of traditional entertainment from his homeworld. In addition to various combat drills and martial arts, he plays several grand strategy games, trading card games, 3-D chess, and the like. Under guidance of a previous counselor, he also uses the Holodeck for social mysteries, to help him develop a better sense of subtle communication in a safe environment. He's always open to sharing his hobbies with those he considers friends, or even warm acquaintances. He does, however, have a tendency to be a bit of a sore winner. |
| Personal History | After the peace treaty between Elas and Troyius in 2268 arbitrated by the Federation, many of the great families of Elas saw that there were better ways to live than the brutish tribalism that had defined their past. Haaktor's grandparents, rulers of the Zelaia province, felt snubbed when Elaan's nephew Dokuun of the neighboring Panderos region was named Dohlman. Starting a war over it would appear weak, so their response was probably the sneakiest thing they could do. Separately convincing both the Principus of Troyius and Dokuun, they managed to get Elas listed as a Federation protectorate around the 2280s. As a result, some Federation culture has fed into the Elasian peoples and now Haaktor is the first of his people to serve offworld. He hopes to eventually retire from Starfleet and bring his home into the Federation as a full member, and be elected to the Governor position in place of the relatives of Dokuun. As far as his own history, he was born on Elas in 2350, a fairly boring time in the history of that world. For the first few years of his life, he barely knew about other worlds, or the Federation. His first encounter with a Federation ship or anyone who wasn't an Elasian was a Federation doctor who'd come by to offer inoculations around the time he was five. Over time, he learned more about his family history and the Federation. Since then, he's been incredibly interested in being a member of Starfleet. He's served with distinction through his time in the service. |
