Lieutenant Vrax tr'Keirianh

Name Vrax i'Ra'tleihfi tr'Keirianh

Position Chief Science Officer

Rank Lieutenant

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Romulan
Age 46

Physical Appearance

Height 1.9m
Weight 85kg
Hair Color Black
Eye Color Gray-Blue
Physical Description Vrax tends to look rather intense, if not intimidating, which is not uncommon for a Romulan. His eyes clearly reflect the intelligence hidden behind them and seems to be always watchful. Given his mixed heritage of Northern and Southern Romulus parents, he has only subtle ridges in his forehead, but are apparent enough to make him noticeably Romulan. In an attempt to not appear too Romulan to his new peers, Vrax has adopted a style for his hair that he considers much more 'human'. While he doesn't prefer it, he finds the lack of attention it requires quite convenient to keep a professional appearance. Physically, the man is quite fit and strong, as is expected of all Romulan citizens, though, besides his broad shoulders, he can easily conceal his physique underneath the standard uniform. The only other uniquity of the man is the brand on the back of his shoulder indicative of his family that he's had since he was a child.

Family

Father Mahan tr'Keirianh

Brother(s) and / or Sister(s) Vriha t'Keirianh (Older Sister)

Personality & Traits

General Overview Vrax tends to come off quite serious and dry, albeit not as emotionless as Vulcans. His use of Federation Standard is remarkably good thanks to the Romulans' focus on training their forces in the language of their former rivals. It is clear, though, that his passion and dedication to his work and the Sciences in which he works are only rivaled by his dedication to his honorable service. While Vrax still wears his Romulan rank proudly, he sees his assignment to Starfleet as an extension of that, and not as one being made to work with enemies. The only complaint one might have is the Romulan's sense of superiority, which he does try to keep subdued, but isn't always perfect about.
Strengths & Weaknesses As an astrophysicist, very few rival Vrax's knowledge and aptitude in regard to the study of space and the various aspects of it. No matter the phenomena, he looks for a scientific explanation and will push himself to unravel the mysteries of whatever is unknown until it can no longer be considered such. Given his long history of service and the training the Romulan State requires of all of its recognized citizens, Vrax is a well-rounded officer in terms of serving aboard a starship and is able to assist in a wide range of areas, even though it is clearly apparent he is best suited to the Astrosciences and Stellar Sciences divisions.

While he is a Scientist, Vrax is not a biologist in any sense. While he has had basic medical training required of all Star Navy officers, he can only treat the areas of Science outside of his experience as a scientist might; similar to most Starfleet Officers. His biggest weakness, though, is admitting when he needs assistance himself or isn't capable of handling a specific aspect of whatever duties he attempts to cover, especially when it comes to working with Non-Romulans, though he does his best to temper that long-time indoctrination, either through honest admission or, most often, subversion to evaluate and learn the strengths and knowledge of others.
Ambitions Vrax sees his new assignment as a test of his dedication to both the Romulan Empire and his skills as a Romulan Scientist. Through honorable and skilled service, he hopes to prove himself worthy to both the Empire and one day gain a place in the Ministry of Science, but knows that to do so means he must serve at the whims of Starfleet in the best way he can. While he will inevitably keep notes and journals on his experiences, he seeks to prove not only his expertise over his peers but to also lead to new discoveries or technologies as a result of, what he believes is, his Romulan Scientific Knowledge.

Assigned as a Chief of Sciences aboard a Starfleet vessel is the highest posting Vrax knows he can obtain given both the structure of Starfleet and his continued alliance to the Romulan Empire. If he does see an opportunity to be valued or treated as more, he will strive to earn it if he can, if only to further cement his worth to both his and Starfleet's societies.
Hobbies & Interests Given the way in which Romulans are reared and taught, Vrax has become interested in learning the various disciplines of hand-to-hand and weapon-based combat of the Federation Races. While physical training and exercise are treated as necessary, he looks to expand his knowledge to become a more capable rival to any foe he faces. This desire for knowledge extends to other aspects of Federation species as he discovers more aspects of their society, including entertainment, cuisines, and beliefs.

Vrax has long kept a pet Set'leth for many years and had to get special permission from Starfleet to accompany him on his assignment to their vessel. After going through quarantine procedures, the Romulan was told his pet "Verelan" must remain in his quarters at all times. The pet set'leth only understands the Romulan language, but seems calmly curious towards those not of Romulan/Vulcan heritage, for which it seems rather friendly if not affectionate.

Personal History While not of a family of particularly high standing within the Romulan Star Empire, his family's name was known for their dedication and accolades in service to the Empire. While all Romulans served in some capacity or another, not all were automatically recognized for their strength upon reaching adulthood. Vrax's sister Vriha did not need to be tested. The younger brother was not as fortunate.

While always intelligent, there was a question of his strength, requiring Vrax to undergo combat against a childhood friend to prove his worth as a Romulan. While those of another species might have been reluctant, Vrax wasn't. Using his quick mind and reflexes, he feinted his opponent into leaving the opening the man used to drive his Dirhja into his friend. His friend made the mistake of pulling away, spilling his innards to the ground and securing both Romulans' fate.

Attending the Imperial War College, Vrax only trained for two years in the required 'Basic' training that all future Naval members were required. Besides furthering his combative skills, he was taught a wide range of skills befitting service aboard Warbird. While most went immediately into service, the Romulan chose instead to attend the Romulan Academy in pursuit of both furthering his knowledge and seeking a commission within the Imperial Navy.

After four years of study, through showing quite the aptitude for the lesser-desired fields of sciences, Vrax graduated with the Federation Equivalent of a Master of Science before being invited to attend the prestigious Romulan Astrophysical Academy, which was only offered to the top echelon of Science Graduates. Focusing his studies on the expected, Vrax became a leading student in the fields of Physics and Astronomy. After five years, the Romulan was awarded the human equivalent of a Ph.D. in the dual disciplines of Astrophysics and Astronomy on the basis of his study of specific stellar phenomena and their effect on Romulan Singularity Drives.

In lieu of immediate service within the Star Navy, Vrax was directed by the Romulan Ministry of Science to serve as a Researcher at one of their covert facilities, using his expertise in the development of numerous technologies; all of which he nor any of his peers were at the liberty to discuss. After six long years of little life outside of spending double shifts in various labs, the Romulan returned to the Imperial War College to complete his Commissioned Officer training, resulting in the rank of erei'Erein upon graduation and assigned to an Amarcan-Class Warbird as a Science Officer.

Spending much of his time aboard an Amarcan-Class Warbird, the IRW Levok, Vrax aided with Astrometrics and served short stints as a Sensors Control Officer. Given his proven skills and proficiency, he was selected by Romulan Command to serve as the assistant to a high-ranking Romulan Officer who was conducting Naval Technology Research aboard the Lanora-Class Research Vessel, the IRW Takris. Much like his prior service for the Ministry of Science, Vrax is not at liberty to discuss the nature of his research during this year of service.

Given his dedication, the Romulan was promoted to the rank of Erein, and given the Chief of Sciences position aboard the D'deridex-Class Warbird, the IRW Khazara, who served valiantly during the war against the Dominion Alliance. While Vrax was not able to really set himself apart from his peers in terms of any meaningful contribution to the war effort, he was able to aid with the mapping of forces that helped the IRW Khazara maintain a tactical advantage in all skirmishes. While only one of many Romulan battlecruisers involved, Vrax's effort, or more so his dedication to the Romulan State, was not overlooked when it came time to further the fragile alliance between the Empire and the Federation.

Vrax was a bit confused, and even more offended, at first when he was told he was being assigned to serve as an Exchange Officer aboard a Starfleet vessel. The Romulan thought initially it was some kind of punishment, but was quickly led to believe it to be a more prestigious assignment, especially given the position he would hold, than continuing to his service aboard a Star Navy ship. Being entrusted to continue his loyal service to the Romulan Empire while also showing how he was superior to the Federation's scientists, Vrax was given a borrowed Starfleet Shuttle and was ordered to his future posting: the USS Wayfarer
